What is Magick?
A noted occultist, Aleister Crowley once said, "Magick is the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will." But this definition could be applied to anything that we do, walking down the street or driving a car. So we need a better definition.
Magick is a Science, but not one understood by scientists today, but science nonetheless. Like astronomy came from astrology and chemistry from alchemy, Magical techniques will be understood in the future by scientists. So we can say that, "Magick is the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will that is not currently understood by modern science."
What is the Golden Dawn?
The Heremetic Order of the Golden Dawn was and is an outer teaching order that
iniatiated its members in the ways of the Western mystery schools. Meaning, that
the Golden Dawn prepared it members for the working of practical magick.

What do I do first?
First, I would highly recomend picking up the book 'Modern Magick' by Donald Micheal Kraig and published by Llewellyn Worldwide.
Second, read, read, read. You can never read enough.
Third, go to your local occult or metaphysical bookstore. Talk to the people there. In general, they are very freindly and helpful. Meet as many people who practice magick as possible. You will learn a lot from them. Head their advise.
Finally, I will provide you with a few basic exersices to do on a daily basis, but you do need a couple of things first. You will need at least two(2) notebooks (one for recording your ritual practice and the other for recording your dreams on a daily basis) and a tarot deck. Any standard (22 major arcana and 56 minor arcana) deck will do, but I would suggest a deck based on the Rider-Waite Deck.
