Legend has been one of my favorite
movies for years, ever since the first time I saw it, about 8 years ago.
I remember the first time I saw it. I was a mere 8 years old, and I was
sitting in my grandmother's family room, glued to the television screen.
After I saw it, I can't remember how many times I've danced around in front
of the fire places and sang to the fire that makes "music like a choir..."
I can't count how many times I've watched the scene when Lili, played by
the beautiful Mia Sara, was seduced into the dark side. I always wished
I could sing to birds and speak the language of all animals, like Jack
could. (Tom Cruise played this part.) I don't know what I loved so much
about it. I was seduced into loving the movie just as Lili was by the Lord
of Darkness (played by the great Tim Curry. Yes, the "sweet transvestite"
from Rocky Horror...) Blix's (Alice Payton) rhymes always stuck in my head.
And the music by Tangerine Dream just completed everything so perfectly.
Everything about Legend makes it one of the best movies ever made. The
movie does a great job showing the contrast of light against dark, love
against hate, heaven against hell, sweet and pure against ultimate evil.
I always wanted to live in the world of Legend, where unicorns hold the
power of goodness, and I could enjoy the company of elves, like Gump
and Brown Tom and Screwball. I always wanted to wander in the Castle of
Darkness and see what treasures there was to find.
