Angels and Magic

In order to understand the relationship between angels and magic, you must understand what is an angel. There are four definitions of an angel.

Definition #1

This common belief is that angels are beings existing on another plane. They have their own consciousness and their own Will to do as they please. These beings are entities in service to the Light and as such follow specific guidelines in their actions. They are seldom seen, but they are always present and they are here to help mankind.

Definition #2

This common belief is that angels are simply forces of energy without any Will or capacity to make decisions. As a force of energy they can be managed and harnessed and they have no interest in the affairs of man.

Definition #3

The third common belief is that angels are the manifestation of man's belief that they exist. They are the end result of the ethereal providing us with what we desire that has  created the existence of angels.

Definition #4

The fourth belief is that angels are the personification of parts of our own higher self. They exist to help each individual with his or her evolution to enlightenment.

Which is the correct definition?

All of these beliefs in angels are true. The reason that this is so is that angels can not be categorized by a single definition.

Angels on the Ethereal plane

First of all, such entities are not all angels. Some of them are categorized as spirits, cosmic forces, entities of myths and legends, and also ghosts and demons. The entities that exist on other planes are as diverse in relation to good and evil as we are. Those that are in service to the Light follow a specific set of rules on conduct. These rules on conduct are the very same rules that we follow as we choose to serve the Light and to undertake the Great Work.

When dealing with such entities, you must first understand that they are not here to serve you. They may choose to help you, but only if they perceive you as a deserving good person and if your cause is just and in accordance with the Light. Should they perceive you as a messenger of Darkness, they may turn on you, therefore always insure where your intentions lie. Also insure that you are indeed dealing with an entity of the Light, as the same holds true if your cause is just, but the entity is not.

Angels that are energies

The term angel is a very loose term which has somehow come to include forms of energy that we have yet to understand. We often mix up our elemental forces with the angels that reside over them. This is also true with astrological bodies and celestial forms which we have personified through associations to angels. We also do this with ethereal energy and angels such as associating the Akashic Records to the angels of Chiron.

Such a mix up in dealing with angels would be catastrophic, except for in this case, because everything exists and is comprised of energy; to deal with angels from an energetic perspective is perfectly acceptable and accurate.

Angels created through social consciousness

The interesting thing about society is that if enough people believe in something, it takes on a life of it's own. We posses the ability to create and whether we realize it or not, this ability to create is always working.

The religions of the world has placed names and personalities to the powers that be. Although it is unknown which came first, the entity or the force behind it, the fact still remains that the entity and the force exist.

Such entities are, the angels and Archangels of Judaism, Christianity, and the Islamic faith, the helper and animal spirits of many cultures around the world, and the entities of folklore and legend that are still believed as real.

Angels that are Higher Self

There are many aspects of who we are. Some of those aspects are specifically tasked in the evolution of ourselves and to our general well being. Often times these aspects of who we are become personified in order for us to better relate and to perceive them. We tend to recognize these aspects as guardian angels, ancestors who have returned to help us, spiritual guides and teachers. 

The Divine Ones

Another group that could pertain to these category are the Gods and Goddesses, and the different aspects of the Almighty God. Due to my own personal beliefs and out of respect for any and all religions that would be without a doubt offended, I will not and never attempted to place any of the Divine Ones within the four categories.

By now I am sure that many of you are rather upset that I have implied that 3 major religions of the world had made up their angelic entities. Although that is what I had said and it does hold true for that particular level, an angel exists on all four levels.

Such as there are 10 aspects of God according to the Kabalistic Doctrine, there are four aspects of an angel. When you call upon an angel and handle the situation a certain way sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Working with Magic and Angels requires that you approach the angel appropriate to the aspect that you are dealing with. If you approach the wrong aspect with the wrong attitude, there will be problems in the energy flow.

This is why talismanic magic sometimes does not work properly, the magician may be approaching the angel as an entity and treating the angel as an energy. You must either approach the angel as an entity and treat the angel as an entity or approach the angel as an energy and treat the angel as an energy.

In treating an angel as an energy as well as in general, it must be done with respect and not taken for granted. Where respect may improve your magic, when dealing with angels; respect is required.

Angels and Achromancy

Before you are able to work with angels through Achromancy, you must first understand how angels interact with us. As you call upon these beings, it isn't as if the angel is sitting in his barko-lounger sipping a pepsi as you say, "Yoo-hoo, Mr. Angel! Can you come here please?"

Angels exist beyond the physical plane outside of space and time, but often people will mistakenly perceive that they exist at a physical location as they call these beings to them. This is due to our need to perceive these beings in a physical context, thus we place them in a theoretical location that we classify as being "not here".

The fact of the matter is that they do not come to us, but rather they come through us, but not in the sense that we are like a tunnel and they are like an object travelling through us.

Angels while on the ethereal plane are ethereal energy and like any other form of ethereal energy, they are connected to the total existence on the ethereal plane. As we invoke an angel, the energy on the ethereal plane transforms and the angel manifests.

This transformation occurs within our existence on the ethereal plane, as we too are also energy on this plane. In other words, the angelic being is a form of energy that we  create on the ethereal. However, this does not mean that they are just another product of our creation. Although we create the form of energy that we call angels, it does not mean that without us the angel would not exist.

Our role of creator is simply not that magnificent of an accomplishment and also there is more to the existence of angels than their existence on the ethereal plane. The reason that angels exist on the ethereal plane has more to do with us more than it has to do with them. They exist to help us and this should not be taken for granted. Their decision to help is of their own volition and may be withdrawn should they choose to do so.

The hidden truth is that angels come from the higher planes and it is because we have trouble reaching these planes that they choose to manifest in what is to them the lower planes. We call to them, they hear us, and they manifest.

As an angel manifests in a plane, the angel does so much like anything else that would manifest on that plane. If the plane in question was the astral, the angel would appear to you possibly in a dream. If the plane in question were to be the physical, the angel may possibly manifest as a helpful stranger. In the ethereal, the angel would manifest as ethereal energy and this is important for without such a manifestation by the angel; angelic magic would not be possible.

In working with Achromancy, angels manifest on the ethereal and allows the magician to use their energy. They will not do this for everyone and for any reason. You must have a rapport with this angel and your intentions must be clear before they will manifest.

Considering that Achromation rituals are simplistic with less emphasis on the physical, it would be contrary to the art to have to call the angel by name and state your endeavor. This unfortunately is what angels require before they choose to get involved, therefore in Achromancy the words are replaced by the mind state of the intention. This mind state would also incorporate the name of the angel in question that the intentions are directed towards.

This process also falls within the standard concept of mind states being used to manifest forms of energy, only in this case; the form of energy in question possesses it's own Will and the magic is to a certain degree a joint venture.  

The next ritual that we shall work with is called Calling Down an Angel. In order to do this ritual, you will require the ability to evoke an angel. If you do not posses this ability, I suggest that you work with one of the Archangels of the Lesser Banishing Pentagram as by now you have most likely become familiar in calling them to your rituals. Once you have gained success with these angels, you will have taught your mind that such things are possible and you may then experiment in calling other angels by the same method.

For those of you in the Wiccan tradition, this ritual may be used for calling down various forms of the Lord or Lady. All rules previously stated still apply.

One of the things that many do not realize is that when you call upon an angel, often times it isn't the angel that responds. In many cases it is the angel's subordinate that shows up and helps you out. It's almost as if when you say, "Michael, please help me.", Michael responds, "Oh, not him again. Joe, take care of it.". The reason this occurs is that the magician does not specify a personal appearance and instead only asks for the angels help. The angel then responds by helping the magician out through sending another angel.

Should you decide to request a personal appearance, keep in mind that by doing so you have just made the evocation a whole lot tougher to accomplish. In order for this to occur, you first have to be worthy and have earned the right to evoke such an angel.  For example, you will often hear people talk about the Archangel Michael making an appearance. The Archangel Michael is a member of the Magnificent Seven. His title is the Prince of Splendor, and he is considered to be the Protector of God and the Almighty Lord's top lieutenant. You would have to be pretty special and the situation would have to be very important for the Archangel Michael to make a personal appearance.

This bit of information is very significant and you can use this information to your advantage. The higher up the Heavenly Hierarchy you attempt to communicate, the more difficult it becomes, especially when dealing with a ritual such as an evocation which is so often misused for the wrong reasons.

This is why it is always better to call upon more accessible angels (which is not to say that they are less important or lower in status). Many angels are given specific tasks and are given specific people to help, and it is not uncommon to have the same angels helping you throughout your life.

The problem is that you can not call them unless you know their name. To solve this problem, what you will need to do is to ask them for their name the first chance you get. 

The procedure is as follows. You call upon an Archangel for help and an angel appears. You ask the angel for the angel's name and you record it down. Whenever you choose to ask for the same type of assistance, instead of bothering the Archangel, you call upon the angel that helped you the last time. Keep in mind that this process will be occurring on the ethereal and thus you will not be able to ask the angel in English or any other spoken language. You will need to communicate on the ethereal via Sensorial Association or you can take this entire process and do it in the astral where the spoken word exists, but be careful as the astral can be a chaotic place.

You may be asking the name of what you perceive to be an angel and get the reply, "Woof", because in reality; you are talking to the spirit of your pet dog, Rover. The final thing that you will require to perform this ritual is to have Sensorially Associate the entire evocation. This includes the task that you wish to be done, and the name of the angel that you wish to do the task.

Calling Down an Angel

STEP ONE. Perform the MSID. Once again all magic should be initiated from your normal state.

STEP TWO. Perform the Achromation Ritual of the Banishing Pentagram. If you feel that this step is not necessary, than you, my friend are a fool. The fundamentals exist so as to not magically shoot ourselves in the ethereal foot.

STEP THREE. Perform the Achromation Ritual of the Banishing Hexagram. The objective is create a clear environment to contact the angel.

STEP FOUR. Perform the Achromation of the Light Divine. The reason for this step is that in doing any form of angelic magic, it is necessary to do so with the right disposition and with a pure heart. Visualize the entire area being filled with the energy of the Light Divine.

STEP FIVE. Sensorially Associate the mind state of the evocation.  Once you have acquired the correct mind state, call out the name of the angel. This can be done on a mental level instead of screaming out the angel's name, especially should you be in a crowded room. Angels prefer to work behind the scenes.

STEP SIX. Perform the MSID and return to your normal state. Once again, the physical elements have been omitted from the ritual, as had been the case in the Achromation of the Light Divine. The reason this has been done is because in order to do this ritual, you must first be able to invoke the Light and this would require you to have learned how to do so without the use of physical element. In other words, you should have learned how to perform Achromancy without the use of physical elements by now and you no longer require the physical elements.

Angel, I am

A more effective method of working with angelic magic is to become the angel. This process is commonly referred to as invocation, but what we shall be doing is more than to simply understand what it is like to be the angel or to step aside and to allow the angel to control our body. What we shall do is to merge with this angelic force where we are still in control. It can be perceived as the angel is channeling the magician.

The magical definition of what shall be occurring is as follows. On the ethereal plane, that which is our existence exists as ethereal energy and as such has the ability to transform into anything on the ethereal plane. Through our mind state, we will use our Will to transform our ethereal energy to be in perfect alignment with the ethereal energy that is in effect the angel in question. In doing so, we become apart of that angel and that angel becomes apart of us.

By accomplishing this ritual, it will give you the abilities of the angel you are working with, but it isn't the omnipotent weapon that on the surface it appears to be. In order for you to become one with the angel, you are going to have to do all the compromising. The nature and mind state of the angel is not going to change to match you. You will have to change to match the angel.

Therefore if it is your desire to misuse this power, in order to receive this power you will have to change your misusing nature behind your intentions and your intentions will change with it.

The benefits of this ritual is that it will allow you to work directly with the Archangels and their power. It is within your right to do, because everything is occurring within your realm of existence and as such under the authority of your Will. The only problem is (and I'm sure that you've realized that it couldn't be this easy), the Archangels are not going to tell you what their mind state is. That is where Passive Association comes into play.

If you by chance do not feel like investing a lifetime in order to become an Archangel, there are many other angels that are very effective and are willing to work with us. These are the angels that we call upon when we ask for help. To become an angel, it requires that you are able to assume the mind state of the angel. In order to do this, you will require to know the angel and this can be accomplished through evocation.

Once you have identified the mind state, sensorial associate it so that you are able to produce this mind state. What this ritual accomplishes is that you will no longer have to be concerned with your intentions as you will do what is proper and needed. You will do what the angel would do. It will reduce the reaction time, as you are not dealing with another entity, as you would if you were to call down an angel. It will reduce the risk factor, because there is nothing you would do wrong as the angel. A similar process to this often used in wicca is called drawing down the moon or evoking the Goddess.

Should you fail to attain this alignment, it is not a negative karmic issue therefore there are no repercussions. However, in the same respect as calling down an angel; make sure that it is indeed an angel that you are working with. The best way to identify an imposter is to invoke the Light in it's presence. The Light Divine is the Light of Truth and the Forces of Darkness can not exist in the presence of the Light.

Becoming an Angel

STEP ONE. Perform the MSID. Attain that normal state. In the wrong state, you could perceivably, do something you would regret later and screw up your karma in the process.

STEP TWO. Perform the Achromation Ritual of the Banishing Pentagram. The fundamentals have not changed and neither should this step.

STEP THREE. Perform the Achromation Ritual of the Banishing Hexagram. This is also a fundamental ritual especially when working with hard to reach forces such as angels.

STEP FOUR. Perform the Achromation of the Light Divine. Why are we doing this ritual? A magician must know why each ritual is necessary. It is a part of the control factor that is inherent in being a magician. 

STEP FIVE. Sensorially Associate the mind state of the angel.  Once you have acquired the correct mind state, call out the name of the angel. This can be done on a mental level or spoken physically.

STEP SIX. Perform the  MSID and return to your normal state.

The nature of Angelic Magic Angelic Magic conforms to the same Cosmic Laws that High Magic must conform to. Should you work with Angelic Magic, you will not be able to walk through a wall. You will not be able to levitate a rock for the sake of amusement. The reason for using Angelic Magic instead of High Magic is to learn from Angelic Magic. It is not a weapon. It is not a defensive shield (at least it's not supposed to be). It is a teaching tool, that is to be used to gain knowledge and wisdom.

Do not abuse Angelic Magic. The right to knowledge and wisdom can be lost or taken away.

Departing Thought

You occasionally will hear people talk about the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge. A noble venture, but a pursuit for the sake of the acquisition is futile. And there are also those who care only of status and ranking. We, within the pagan community like to think that we are above and beyond the primitive ambitions of the mundane world. Unfortunately, very few of us has ever faced the harsh truth about ourselves and the world we live in. The topic of this section is Relevance and Importance.

By the way, allow me to elaborate on the wisdom and knowledge comment. Wisdom and knowledge are not debating weaponry that you throw in your adversary's faces as you sing the childish song, "Nah Nah, I know more than you do ....".

The question I submit to you is to ask yourself this. As the centuries pass and my name has been long forgotten, what have I done that really mattered?

We seek knowledge and let us say that we acquire it. What does it matter if we were the smartest people in the world? We seek wisdom, but even wise men die. We may die rich. We may die happy. We may live to be a hundred and three, but in the end, what does it all matter?

Am I saying that we must all go out there and try to make history so that we will be remembered? No that it not what I am saying.

What does really matter? I can tell you what doesn't matter and that's you and I. However, there is something in this existence that does indeed matter. What is it? I challenge you to use the tools that I have given you to discover the answer for yourselves.

Asks yourselves these questions. What if Gardner had decided not to write his first book? What if Witchcraft and Paganism were to no longer be recognized religions by the governments of the world? After all, laws do change. What are the names of the authors who's long forgotten grimoires Crowley purchased as he traveled through Europe seeking knowledge? Who sailed the boat that crossed the horizon as Columbus watched on? Who cut the hay in the manger that housed baby Jesus? Who planted the palm tree that Buddha sat under when he conceived of Nirvana? What does it all matter or is there something out there that does matter?
