Did you know about the superstitions associated with the Adder?
Well....
In some countries people often dry the skin off a dead Adder and hang it up in their houses for good luck. ugh!
Gypsies believe there is only one way to cure a bite from an Adder and that is to kill it and rub the snake over the wound. ugh!
What about this one?
If you see some ants and you step on them, then it is a sign rain to come.
This is based on the fact that ants are supposed to move their eggs to a covered place cos' they could sense rain on the way.
An ant hill near your home is considered to be a sign of future riches.
Also if you are in love and do not wish to be, then eat some ants eggs with honey then you should fall out of love.
An apple tree is said to have healing powers(An apple a day keeps the doctor away!)
Mind you we all know that apples are full of vitamins.

It is said that if a woman has many possible lovers,she must use apple pips to decide which. As she says each man's name, she is to throw a pip into a fire,if the pip pops then it is he who is right
Or even...
Some women are said to use the apple peel to predict the name of their future hubby.first of all they peel off the skin in one whole piece, then they throw it over their shoulder and if it lands in one piece then it will make the shape of a letter to his first name.However if the peel breaks,then it means she will never marry.
The first of April is the day we all try to play tricks on each other and make them into fools.
But how many of you know how this came about?
It all started in France in the 16th Century when it was decided to re-arrange the calendar. Until then, the first day of every year was on the 25th March and people were in the habit of giving each other presents to celebrate the occasion.However it soon became custom to wait for the 1stApril so as not to interfere with the religous festival of Easter.
When the French declared that New Years Day was to be changed,many people thought it would be fun to keep the tradition going.So they continued to visit their freinds in the hope that they would think it was still the first day of the new year.Gradually the idea spread and is now a popular joke throughout the world.
If an apron was put on inside out then this considered to be a lucky omen for the rest of the day.
If an Apron fell off during doing some housework then it was considered to be a sign of a forth coming pregnancy.
What about these two German ones?
A man who wipes his hands on a womans apron will fall in love with her.But once a couple is engaged he must keep his hands off her apron otherwise they will quarrel.
