Ears

Although people may laugh at you if you have got big ears, don't despair; they have their advantages.

The larger your ears are, the more generous a person you are; while if your ears are tiny, you are likely to be a real
meanie.

If either of your ears starts to twitch, then it means that someone somewhere is taudng about you. If it's the right one it's probably a friend being nice about you. But a twitch in the left ear is not so good - it means someone's being nasty about you.

But there's no need to be too upset if this happens. The Dutch have come up with a way of retaliating, so that you
can have a little fun at the gossip's expense.

Carefully bite your little finger and the naughty gossip will then be forced to bite his/her tongue!

Elbows

If you feel your elbow starting to itch, beware. It means that you will be sleeping in a strange bed in the near future.

If you are unfortunate enough to bang your elbow. it not only hurts quite a lot, but it can bring you a week of bad luck as well. That is a common belief in India.

A strange old British superstition says that your elbow can come in very useful if you want to get your own back
on someone.

When you feel like taking your revenge, simply bite your elbow. This will cause a cloud to move over the head of your
intended victim - a cloud which will drench the person in a huge thunderstorm.

I would say that there are simpler ways of getting your own back - I mean, have you ever tried to bite your elbow? It's not easy.

Emus

The emu is a bird which has become famous thanks to that funny pair - Rod Hull and Emu. But don't be deceived. The emu is a real bird. It is related to the ostrich, and comes from New Zealand.

It is not just a bird which causes mayhem and destruction wherever it goes, as Rod Hull would have us believe. In fact, the Maoris of New Zealand think that the emu has magical powers. To see one means that you will soon have a piece of good fortune, and some people maintain that it has special abilities to cure illness and disease.
It is not surprising that killing an emu brings that person very bad luck.

Eyes

Eyes are constantly on the move. They are forever blinking or winking, and the question of which one is in motion is quite important - at least it's important if you are superstitious.

The old belief is that if your left eyelid twitches without you meaning it to do so, then you will be in for a spell of bad luck.

On the other hand, if it's the right one then everything's all right. By the way this only applies to men - it's the opposite way round with women.

If your eyes feel ticklish on the other hand, then just hope it's the right one and not the left one - whichever sex you are. Here again, it is the right one which brings luck.

If you cannot stop your eyes from itching, there is a cure at hand. Bathe them in the rainwater collected from the leaves of the teazel plant. It's as simple as that! The problem usually is finding a teazel plant when you need one!
