If you are unfortunate enough to drop one of your
gloves, it is better not to pick it up yourself, but to let
someone else do it. It simply brings you more luck or so the
story goes. Of course it may be difficult to do this, especially
if there is no one around.
This custom probably dates back to the Middle Ages, when women
used to drop gloves in the path of men to whom they took a fancy.
If the man picked up the glove, it meant that he felt the same
way about the woman.
Losing a pair of gloves is considered unlucky - and not only
because your hands might freeze! But finding a pair, particularly
on a Sunday, will give good luck.
If you leave your gloves at a friend's house, you must make sure
that you sit down before picking them up again; and do not put
them on before you have stood up.
