[MD1, 11:45PM, Buena Vista Motel]
Finally back at the motel after more than an hour of answering the questions posed by local police at the scene of the fire, Zenya didn't even bother turning on the light in her room. She tossed her jacket in the general direction of a chair, unholstered her gun and set it on the night stand within easy reach. Pushing aside the books and papers that she had scattered across the bed earlier, she lay down on the bed. Taking into account the time difference, she realized that she had been awake for going on twenty hours. She could feel the tiredness settling over every muscle in her body, but her mind was still in overdrive, going over everything that had happened at the Cross house - or the trap, as she'd come to think of it - time and again, sorting out the events and raising questions. Rebecca's apparently hasty departure and the perfectly set and baited trap she and Leo had walked into led to the conclusion that Rebecca was in this deeper than she could have suspected. Replaying the conversation she'd had with the young woman at the funeral, she searched for some indication of deception, but it just wasn't there.
As the bedside clock flashed midnight, Zenya gave up on the thought of sleep, at least for a while. The longer she lay there thinking, the stronger the smell of smoke in her hair and clothes seemed to get. Some things there was no getting used to. She made her way to the bathroom in the dark, piled her clothes on the counter and let the water run as hot as she could stand it. Finally convinced that the smell was washed away, she grabbed her robe and towel and headed back to the bed.
She turned on the light, picked up a note pad and started to work on the profile she had started earlier.

NRPG: Hi, all! Sorry to make this one so short. Complete writer's block, new job and it's been one of *those* weeks. :) I promise, I'll come up with something more inspired next time. ;)
