Location : Pizzeria Uno
Date : Day 1, 7:00 pm
Jordan turned up his collar as he walked from the parking lot towards the main entrance of the Pizzeria. The air was quite cold as he noticed his breath came out in small pockets of steam. If anyone on the other side of the street saw him, they would probably assume he was smoking something. Leo and Vanessa decided to stay in the car for a little while before following him in.
"More likely to avoid this cold." Jordan muttered to himself, as he reached the front door. Glancing around, more out of habit than anything, Jordan opened the door and entered. Less than a minute later, the waiter showed him to the table where the mysterious woman watched him approach, not knowing that two other people were watching him as well, one friendly, the other not.
From his vantage point on the rooftop, Jim watched as Jordan made his way to the table to meet with whoever that woman was. Secure in knowing that he had Jordan's back covered, Jim settled into that state of calm alertness that all sharpshooters fell into when in a life or death situation. Although, it wasn't quite life or death yet, but one couldn't be sure. Jim watched the surrounding area through his scope when he saw Leo and Vanessa emerge from the car and headed toward the restaurant.
From their car down the street, Zenya, Martin, and Tom watched as Vanessa and Leo made their way across the parking lot. All of a sudden, they saw Leo stop and look around.
"He's sensing something, like the way he sensed that we would've gotten hit by that car when we went to Tom's house." Martin said. "It's like he has this sixth sense when danger's around."
"Must be from his stint in the military and those classified missions they sent him on." Zenya said. "Probably expanded his awareness."
"Or made him paranoid." Tom added with a grin. "He was in the military?"
Zenya nodded. "Special forces team sent into sensitive areas on classified missions.... or so he said. Rumor had it at Quantico that he was in Black Ops, but that's never been verified."
Martin watched as Leo began scanning the buildings opposite the Pizzeria. "I gather it must be true since he knew that one of the people watching Sgt. Carter's records were Black Ops."
Zenya shrugged at this, a frown crossing her face. "What is he looking for?"
"What are you looking for?" Vanessa asked Leo, who had suddenly stopped and started looking at the buildings across the street.
"I can't shake this feeling that we're being watched." Leo answered, his eyes scanning the rooftops.
"Of course we're being watched." Vanessa answered, matter-of-factly. "Zenya and Martin are down the street along with one of those no-plate cars that you spotted when we drove here."
"No. This is different." Leo answered, as he put an arm around Vanessa's shoulder and started walking slowly toward the Pizzeria. "There are snipers keeping an eye on things here."
"What?" Vanessa stiffened under his arm. "How could you know something like that?"
"As a former assassin in the military, one picks up these things." Leo answered, not noticing the look of shock that crossed Vanessa's face until they were in front of the Pizzeria.
"You were an assassin?" Vanessa whispered, her mind whirling with this new information.
Leo looked into her eyes, seeing the all too familiar look that followed him when he left the military, the brand of murderer lingering there, and then he turned away, saying, "That was a long time ago. Another lifetime. THe job has changed, although I kept the skills."
Vanessa saw the look of pain that crossed Leo's face as he turned away and reached out to him. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to come out like that. I was just..."
"shocked. Yeah, I know." Leo glanced into the eatery, finding Jordan and the woman discussing something. After taking a deep breath, Leo puffed out a long billow of mist which floated above and away from him. As the mist dissipated, Vanessa and Leo both saw a thin red line momentarily shown. "Laser sights."
Vanessa nodded. "But from where?"
"2nd floor from across the street." Leo answered. "We'd better get there and stop whoever's up there."
"If they don't stop us first." Vanessa muttered as she followed Leo into the seemingly abandoned building across from the Pizzeria.
