It stopped next to their own car and two men in gray suits got out. They looked at the license plate and seemingly compared it to a number on their notebook.
"Federal agents?" Martin asked. They used the same dresscode that he did: Gray suits, creased pants and a discreet tie.
"Probably," Leo stated. "We might have to make a run for it."
The two men entered the restaurant and walked over to the counter. Martin and Zenya couldn't see what was happening, because they had their backs to the counter, but Leo kept them informed.
The men showed their badges to one of the teens working behind the counter. She said something to the men and pointed them in the direction of the agents.
The men nodded and turned around.
"No way out now," Leo said. "We'll just have to wait and see what they want."
The taller of the two men flashed his FBI badge to Leo. He gave them a good, hard stare.
"I'm Special Agent Hill with the FBI. This is agent McKenzie. Is that your car?"
He pointed in the direction of their rental car.
"Yes, why?" Leo asked.
The man took out a picture of Tom and showed it to the three agents.
"Do any of you recognize this man? He's wanted for the murder of two MPs and for steeling top secret documents from Edwards Air Force Base."
"We've never seen him," Martin lied . "What has he got to do with our car?"
"Witnesses saw him fleeing a crime scene in downtown Boston, in a car just like yours. One witness remembered part of a license number, matching that of your car."
"That's impossible," Zenya said. "We arrived in Boston today, and haven't had time to go downtown yet."
"OK, sorry to have bothered you," the shorter agent said. They didn't look satisfied with the answer Zenya had given them, but they left the restaurant anyhow.
"This is bad," Leo said. "We'll have to warn Tom and Jordan."

(Later, in the car)
"Someone must have fed the lies about Tom, to the Boston field office," Zenya said, "I wonder which group?" There had been so many people chasing them, these past two days, it was getting hard to keep them apart. She could rule out Carol, because if she'd been involved, the two men would probably have recognized Martin.
The radio was playing a song, in a language neither Zenya nor Leo recognized. Zenya was just about to change stations, when Martin stopped her.
"It's Swedish,"he said. "I know it from a musical called 'Kristina from Duvemla', by the men behind ABBA: Bjorn Ulvus and Benny Andersson. In translation, the title is: 'The Gold Turned Into Sand'."
"Huh?" both Leo and Zenya said.
"On the 4th of July, Emily and I went up to Fargo, Minnesota, to visit her grandparents. We took them to see 'Kristina' in the Twin cities, since it was there on tour. It's a musical about the first emigrants to leave Sweden for the U.S. I remember her grandmother cried throughout the entire play. She was only a little girl, when her parents had to leave Sweden, but she had some recollection of the trip. During the three weeks it took them to sail from Sweden to New York, two of her siblings died from pneumonia."
"It must have been a very powerful experience for her then, to see the musical." Zenya said, sadness showing in her voice.
"Yes, it was," Martin replied, "but what about you? You must know what it's like to have to leave your country, for an unknown destination"
"I do, but if it's OK by you, it's nothing I care to discuss right now."
The song ended and another song came on. It was Mellissa Etheridge's "The Only One".
"This is a great station," Martin said. "Two of my recent favorites back to back. This song always makes me think of Henry David Thoreau."
"How come?" Leo asked.
"The mentality! If you want anything, you're the one to get it. Only you can make a difference to yourself. I believe if you want something bad enough, and you're totally committed, God will help you get it."
"You have a lot of theories about most things, haven't you?"
Leo knew all about committment, but sometimes it didn't help. When Docker killed his family, he was totally committed to vengeance. But somewhere along the way, his outlook changed. Protecting his team-mates was his first priority now.

(Back in the lodge)
They found Jordan and Tom sitting at the kitchen table. Jordan had decided they needed a break and a cup of coffee.
"Any more coffee?" Martin asked. When he didn't get an answer, he helped himself to a cup from the pot.
"There's something we need to discuss," Leo said. "We were out scouting for a meeting place at the Jack-in-the-Box off Route 1, when two agents, probably from the Boston field office approached us. They asked us questions about you, Tom, and told us you are wanted for two counts of murder, and for steeling important documents from Edwards AFB."
"But that's a lie," Tom said. He was standing up now, his face all flushed.
"You know that, and we know that, but they don't. Someone has made them believe you are a murderer and a thief. Unfortunately, we don't know who might have done such a thing."

[NRPG:]
Jordan: Over to you.
Sydnie: I haven't read 'Passport to Assassination', but I will do if I can find it at the library. It could be difficult, though. BTW: Your post wasn't lame. My post might be, however.
All: Super Sunday tomorrow, so don't count on any posts from me until Tuesday, at the earliest. Due to the time difference, they show the game very late here in Sweden. Too bad I can't enjoy the special episode of '3rd Rock from the Sun' afterwards. They aren't showing it here in Sweden, for one or two seasons. We're a bit behind...
Kind Regards,
