Mission 4

Another one bites the dust

>By this time, Zenya and Martin had concluded their talk and joined them.

>"Where are you going?" Zenya asked, as Agent Jameson returned with two sets of maps for Leo.

>"Down to Hell, wanna join me?" Leo said with a smile.

Martin didn't pay attention to Zenya's answer, because it was interrupted by Jameson's secretary.

"They've found another body with similar injuries as the tunnel worker. It's being brought in for an autopsy."

"Where was it found?"

"A storm drain near Pier 17."

"OK, thank you, Ellen." The secretary left and closed the door behind her.

Jameson scratched his neck. He looked very worried.

"This is not good," he sighed, "one body in Brooklyn and one on Manhattan. This means there are either more than one creature, or it is extremely mobile."

"Do the maps cover Manhattan?" Zenya asked Leo.

"They do," Jameson interjected, "but there are a lot of unmapped tunnels, some of them dating all the way back to the early 17th century, when New York was still New Amsterdam."

"It looks like you going down to hell is a bit of an understatement," Jordan said. "Are you sure you're up to it?" The question was directed at both Leo and Zenya, but only Leo answered it.

"I am, but I probably need more firepower, than a handgun."

"Talk to Special Agent Morrell," Jameson told him, "he will set you up with what you need. "

"Thanks!"

Martin turned to ask Jordan something, when the door opened behind him. A drop-dead gorgeous woman in her mid-twenties entered the room.

"Ah, this is my forensics pathologist," Jameson said. "Doc, I want you to meet..."

"Hello, Martin," the woman interrupted him in a soft voice. Martin turned around to look at her. She had dark brown, curly hair and eyes like a faun. Martin's jaw dropped, but he didn't seem to recognize the woman.

"You don't recognize me, do you?" she asked him. Martin shook his head.

"I'm Cassandra Hollister. You went out with my sister, Sarah, a couple of times when you were still in college."

"No wonder I didn't recognize you. Last time I saw you, you were a skinny twelve year old with braces and pigtails. How are you, Cassie?"

"Fine. By the way, I was actually thirteen and had a huge crush on you."

"I had no idea. How's your sister?"

"She married Tommy Nolan right after graduation and moved to Seattle. She's expecting their third child any day now."

"Tommy Nolan as in Nerd-head Nolan?"

"Yup, he owns his own software company and probably makes seven figures a year." Martin's jaw dropped once again, this time with a large thud.

"Sorry to interrupt your little reunion," Jameson said. "Perhaps you'd like to stay for the autopsy," he asked Martin.

"Please do," Cassandra told him, "and perhaps afterwards, we could go out and grab something to eat."

Zenya shook her head warningly at Martin and formed a silent "Don't!".

"If it's OK with you, Chief," Martin said to Jordan, ignoring Zenya.

"Sure, why not," Jordan responded. Martin and Cassandra trotted off to the examining room.

[NRPG] Two posts in less than a week. Must be a new personal record.

Jeff: Great cross-over post:-)

Sydnie: I left it up to you to decide if Zenya should accompany Leo down in the tunnels.
