Mission 5

Starting point

>He returned to the team's office and dropped into the guest >chair next to Martin's desk. He pulled the envelope from his >pocket and Leo asked, "What'cha got?"

>Jordan handed the pictures out, a few to each of them.

>"That's Vanessa!" Martin exclaimed.

>"And that's Chris," Zenya added.

>"Interesting, huh?" Jordan replied.

"Yes, it is. And I want answers." Vanessa had appeared in the doorway while they were talking, and now crossed the room to join them.

Jordan nodded. "I thought you might." He passed her the photographs. She looked at them for a moment, frowned, and dropped them on the desk.

"And while we're at it," she said, "I wouldn't mind knowing exactly who has been watching my apartment."

"Where is Chris now," Martin asked. "He might be able to give us an idea of where to start."

Vanessa shook her head. "He's told me everything he remembers. There isn't much to go on." She repeated what Chris had told her about his time in the mountains.

"If we could find the cabin where he was kept," Zenya began, then stopped and frowned, seeing the spark of an idea in Leo's eyes.

"Needle in a haystack," Leo said. "We wouldn't know where to begin looking."

"Based on Chris's description of the place, we could narrow the parameters somewhat," Vanessa said, "but you're right. We'd be wasting a lot of time and without something else to identify the location, it would be difficult, if not impossible."

"Who identified the body," Leo asked.

"I did," Vanessa said haltingly. "It was an explosion. There wasn't much to identify." She shook her head. "They told me it was him. I guess I assumed they were right."

"Which is exactly how someone wanted it," Martin said.

"Be interesting to know exactly who it was who was buried in Chris's grave," Leo commented. "Might give us a line on who arranged the whole thing."

Jordan thought about it for a moment and nodded. "It might. It's a place to start anyway." He turned to Vanessa. "Can you tell where those pictures were taken from? Maybe someone left a clue behind for us."

"We could get an exhumation order," Zenya told Leo as they walked toward the car.

He nodded. "We could. But we'd be alerting everyone to the fact that we're investigating this."

"How did I know you were going to say that?"

NRPG -

Just a short one to get back into the swing of things.

Thanks to everyone who wrote with words of support during my grandmother's illness. She passed away two weeks ago. It's taken some time, but I'm finally getting back on track after letting slide all that time.

Jeff - Thanks for the idea. I leave the rest of it to you. :)
