Mission 5

Coffee talk, with Docker

by Jeff Uribe

[NRPG : Docker's in town for other business, but he decided to drop in to give his say. Also, as a possible peace offering to smooth things over between he and Leo/Zenya. Now we need to know what Chris knows. Hypnotic regression maybe? Anyways, count Leo and Zenya in as a no vote the next morning, along with the info that they dug up on this night. ]

> "But just to be safe," Leo continued for her, nodding, "we ought to > have some way of checking. A code word or something."

> "That's just what I was thinking."

> Leo put an arm around her and whispered in her ear as they walked. > Zenya blushed and grinned.

> "Was that a suggestion, or your code word?" she asked.

> "Both."

Zenya laughed as they made their way back to her apartment. Leo smiled and chuckled as they reached Zenya's apartment building. As they rode the elevator up to Zenya's floor, their minds were a million miles away. Once they got off the elevator, Zenya shook her head as she dug her keys out of her purse.

"What would they want with Docker's file?" she asked, as she opened the door.

Leo gave a slight shrug as he entered first. "I'm not sure, but if Docker isn't involved already, he soon will be. Isn't that right, Docker?"

Zenya's head snapped up in alarm as she heard Docker's voice floating back from her living room, "Yup, although I don't know why they would want me involved."

"Docker! What the hell are you doing in my apartment?" Zenya fairly shouted as she shook with rage. Leo, closed the door behind them and stood by Zenya with an arm around her in case she decided to attack Docker and possibly try to separate his head from his body.

Docker sat up from where he was laying on the sofa and said, "Well, I figured I had a 50/50 chance of finding the both of you, and so I picked the closest place to JEH. Besides, I don't think my visiting is really important seeing as how we have bigger fish to fry."

"We?" Leo said, his eyebrow raised as he felt Zenya's body tense in his arm.

"Okay, for now it's you, but if they did take my file, then they have something planned for me as well." Docker said with a shrug.

"You don't expect us to believe that you have no idea who these people are, do you?" Zenya said, as she made her way to her kitchen to put on some coffee.

Docker just shrugged again. "Believe what you want, but this time I'm actually just as lost as you are. Whoever these guys are, they hold all but one of the cards and they're not showing their hands. Although I can wager a guess at what they're going after."

Leo smiled as he joined Zenya in the kitchen. "For the moment, they want to either create a war between the X-files teams and the Crosses or keep the both of us busy going in circles while they carry out their bigger plan."

Zenya looked at Leo as if he'd just gone mad while Docker nodded and smiled. "Very good Jones, when did you figure it out?"

Zenya turned towards Docker with the same incredulous look and said, "Hold on, I'm missing something. War? Distraction tactics?"

Leo chuckled as Zenya turned back to him. "Of course, that's the whole reason why Docker's here. We wouldn't have seen it otherwise. You saw Amanda coming out of JEH, didn't you?"

Docker snorted and smiled. "Cross is a fool, playing right into their hands."

All of a sudden, realization hit upon Zenya as she replayed the events in her mind. "We were infiltrated by clones of ourselves, and Cross knows that there's a clone of Rebecca out there, so he wants us to team up to find out who's behind this. That way he keeps us in arm's length and we're able to dig up info to use against him."

"Keeping the both of you too busy to see what's really going on." Docker said, as Zenya and Leo emerged from the kitchen with the fresh pot of coffee.

Leo nodded and said, "And if we happen to get too close, they would send in our clones to kill off a few Crosses while 'Ann' Cross does the same to Jim, Martin, Jordan, Vanessa, or us. That way we'd be too embroiled in a private little war and they could do what they want to uninterrupted."

Zenya shook her head. "The trouble is, we don't know who THEY are or what THEY want."

Docker sighed as he drank the offered cup of coffee. "What we do know is that you can't be working with Thaddeus and that Starling is the key to all of this. Whatever they're going to do involves him."

"Which would be why they kept him alive after Rebecca's attack." Leo finished after taking a sip of his coffee. "But even he doesn't remember that much of what happened after."

Docker finished up his coffee and started to get up. "Isn't that why they put the I in FBI?"

Leo chuckled as Docker headed for the door. "Don't think that this momentary truce means that we're still not going to come after you for what you and Cross did to our families."

Docker stopped for a moment, then bowed his head a little. Then with a sad smile on his face, he turned and said, "Wouldn't think of it, Jones. In fact, as sorry as I am, I wouldn't have it any other way." With a wink, he turned and left Zenya's apartment.

"What now?" Zenya asked, as she sat back in her chair.

"We sleep." Leo said with a yawn. Then a mischievous smile crossed his face, "But not until after I lock up and we practice our codeword thoroughly."
