Mission 5

Fishy things

by Alton Reich

> Just then, her cellphone rang.

> "Vanessa."

> "Nessa, Chris here."

> "Chris? Where are you? Aren't you at home?"

> "I'm at the hospital now. I did a little detective job on my own, Nessa. > You won't like what I found."

> "What did you find?"

> "My stuff. All those blood that they drew from him when I was in a coma, > all those medical records. They had been tampered. I did a simple blood > test on all of the blood samples they had of me. Ihe blood is not even of > the same blood group as me."

> Vanessa swore. "I'll be right now."

"What is it?" Jordan asked as Vanessa put her cell phone away.

"Chris. He's at the hospital and has something to show us," she replied.

"Something helpful, I hope?"

"I don't know," Vanessa said with a slight grin, "he's the doctor."

[Half an hour later, in a lab]

"Found anything interesting?" Vanessa said walking over to Chris and standing very close to him.

Chris looked up from the microscope he had been looking through and smiled, "Hi Jordan." He leaned over and kissed Vanessa lightly on the lips.

"Hi," Jordan replied, "Vanessa said you had something for us?"

Chris nodded, "When I called Vanessa, I knew that all the blood samples that were with my medical records weren't mine. Since then, I've gotten some more information."

"He's hoping it's something helpful," Vanessa said with a gesture toward Jordan.

"Maybe," Chris replied cryptically.

"Either it is, or it isn't," Jordan said.

"Well," Chris said leading them across the room to a table and picking up a sheet of transparency film with a series of black dashes on it, "what can you tell me about these three columns?"

Jordan looked for a moment and said, "The first two are the same and the last one is different from them."

"Congrats, you're now a geneticist," Chris chuckled, "The first two are the result of a DNA analysis I performed on the blood and tissue samples that were in my file, and the last one is from a blood sample I just drew from myself."

"So the tissue and blood in the file came from the same person?" Vanessa asked.

"Yeah," Chris answered, "Well, there's like a one in a billion chance they aren't from the same person."

"Now all we need to do is find that person," Jordan said wryly.

Chris suddenly grinned, "I'm glad you asked about that. I fed this DNA pattern into the computer and did a search of the Government's sex offender database. This DNA happens to belong to a convicted rapist, one John Taylor Williams." Chris handed over a sheet of paper with all the pertinent information.

"Hey," Vanessa said, "that's supposed to be our job."

"I couldn't find an address, if it makes you feel any better," Chris responded.

"We'll get an address," Jordan assured him, "You ok here?"

"I think so," Chris nodded.

"Vanessa?"

"I'll be along in a moment."

By the time Vanessa got in the car, Jordan already had an answer. "Well, Chris couldn't get an address because there wasn't one to get. Mr. Williams was released from prison two weeks before Chris was... well, you know. He saw his parole officer the first time, one week later and then dissapeared."

"How convienient," she replied.

Jordan nodded his agreement.

"So, what now?"

"Well, I know it's a long shot, but I want to go talk to his sister. Maybe there's some connection between him and the Crosses?"

NRPG:

Well, I'd like to appologize for being such a slug the past few months, but I did that in my last post. I really have no excuse, but I'm here now, and I'll either make a good show of it, or you have my permission to beat me with a wet noodle.

Sau Woon: One sister to talk to. Is there a connection.

Krister, Jeff & Sydnie: I'll make it a point to check the TANGO archives. It's possible that there's a connection.
