Training

The final touches

>"Is there anyone that would have something against you, or your >family?", asked Josh, trying to work out possibilities for why it had >happened.

>After a moment's pause, Vanessa shook her head. "No," she said, >"I don't think so." Reaper had spent the previous night going through >his mind, racking his brains trying to remember what the hell he >remembered about that device. Then is struck him. While serving >in the marines, Jim had been involved in a skirmish in Granada. In >fact, he had been badly injured when fighting hand-to-hand with >some Guerilla's. Three men had fought him and Jim achieved a >victory, but not without price. He was stabbed in the chest and spent >many months in hospital. It was during that time he had decided to >join the X-Files. Those SOB's at high command had told them it was >just some kids with hand guns. They had gone on to find regular >army, armed to the teeth. Anyway, he must shut that out. It was >important to the division, and Vanessa, that he focus on the present, >not the past.

>"I've seen work like this before," he said to the room. Everyone looked >at him, silently urging him to speak. "There was a guy in recon, never >knew his name, who used to put this kind of stuff together. He was >rather infamous in the Corp because two of his bombs had killed a >marine unit. Rumour has it that when he came out, he went to work for >the highest bidder. Could be that this job is down to him."

>"Really. Give Fred the details later, Jim, and we'll get someone on to it. >In the meantime just be bloody careful!" Josh almost shouted. Both of >the agents obviously felt they had been rebuked, and Josh apologised. >"It's just that we've had a few of these now and I don't want to lose you. >Now, let's get down to business..."

" First of all, I want to bring you around the place. I know that this place was built like a maze, but then I am sure that you know the reasons why. Still, it would not be nice if our special agents became famous for getting lost in their very own Station X, " Josh said, trying to inject abit of humour to losen up the two tensed agent. "You do not have to know every place, but then there are several places that you will find yourselves going to often, when you are looking for information regarding cases that you had come across. Come on. "

The two agents followed as Josh walked out of the classroom and led them to other places. To the two of them, everything looked the same. The same brightly lit corridors with their long, windowless walls, the few cameras hidden in corners, and of course, the lifts that brought them to another floor.

" We are linked to the FBI in many ways, " Josh explained," but still, there are many things that could be more efficiently done, and safer, when they are dealt by our own people. Besides agents like you, we have many employees that worked in the background. Like what I had said before, you will find yourself approaching some of them for help in the very near future. "

They stopped in front of a pair of forboding metal doors and a card machine with a small screen. Josh took out a access card, and slotted it into the small access box, and then pressed his thumbprint onto the screen. Both Jim and Vanessa saw the camera above the door blinking a red light as it recorded the visitors, and the doors opened.

" Our laboratory, "Josh explained as he led them into a large room filled with alot of people in white coats. A few of them who are not too busy looked up and said hi as Josh walked past.

" Over here, we do alot of our own investigations, especially those which we think should be confined to a as small group as possible. There are alot of people, each a specialist in their own field, that are willing to help in any investigation. Of course, if you want, you can do the experiments yourselves or hang around when they are being done. Of course some of them may not like it. " He added with a smile.

After the short tour to the lab, Josh brought them to another place in another part of the building, all the while making the two newcomers wondered how could he keep track of his own movements in a place as complicated as this. This time, it was a long room with alot of metallic file cabinets.

"This is where we keep our documents of past cases. " Josh said as a way of introduction. " Over there, " he pointed to the end of the room, " were computers which you can accessed each and every one of these cases. However, we still keep the old hardcopies, for certain reasons. The files are indexed to make the process of searching easier, but if you need any help, you can always approach the staff here for help. Each of these staff are selected based on very strict criteria, as they are handling very confidential documents and evidence. "

" Now, last but not least, some paperwork. The two of you will be issued a security card, which will be needed when you want to access many of the rooms here. As you must have noticed, the usage of the security card will have to be verified by your thumbprint and a verification by the camera before you can access the room in question. Each of you will also be given some electronic gadgets - a handphone for easy correspondence, and a labtop for mobility. If you want, we can even load you a car for daily transport purposes. Interested? "

The two agents shook their heads.

"Well then, to paperwork we come. Barnes will be there waiting for us. He is very eager to hear your story, Jim, "

With that, the trio moved on.

============================ NRPG================================

Well, I guess that ends the 2 agents' training sessions. Andrew, maybe you can bring the training to a official close, and to add on anything that you want us to know, like who to report to next, or what to do next.

Yours faithfully,
Lee Sau Woon aka Agent Vanessa Lee
