Date:  April 10th
Class:          English
Objective:  To examine gang activity in New York city. Prep 9 to focus on vocabulary use and sentence writing for answers to discussion questions which will be read out aloud.
Materials
Opening Motivational Set:  Discussing gang history of local town and associations people make with clothing, etc.
Procedure:
 

1. After discussion of history of gang activity in school and region, complete section step programs introduction to gang activity, plus handout sheet.

2. Go over Introduction information for film West Side Story

3. Pass out questions which will be completed by end of film`s viewing and read outloud to the class (selected questions drawn at random). Oral answers will be marked off for pauses or slips of the tongue, forcing students to write effective and readable sentences.

 

Followup/ Evaluation:

4. a debate will be set up between opposing sides of the class for question number 2
