He and Akane had been fighting, as usual, screaming at each other and nearly getting physical. But, suddenly, those three words popped out of his lips, and they froze. Akane stood still, her fists ready to hit, and anger building inside of her. Ranma could feel her anger slowly growing, as her face got tense and her lips contracted, but this time it was different, as if her anger wasn't directed towards him. Akane's big brown eyes rolled, looking first at her kncles, which were white because of the tension, and then into Ranma's face. He was pale, his eyes looking into the void. His body was rigid and his legs shaky. He seemed to hold his breath while Akane's was ragged, as if she was going to cry. She felt her anger building up, and noticed that it wasn't aganist Ranma, but aganist herself. Her mind was racing, trying to think of something, when she ran out of the dojo. Ranma's knees gave up as soon as Akane left, and he fell on them, finally taking air, with cold sweat sliding down the back of his neck. Out of the dojo, Akane ran as she never did before, nearly hurting herself as she stretched her legs at their maximun capacity. In an instant she reached the pond and turned to the living room. Her mind worked faster than her legs, and the second she entered the house seemed to expand as her mind tried to find a destination, a place where she could be with herself. Her room was too obvious. Her sister's? No, she wanted to go back to the dojo, but couldn't. The world seemed to whirl as she blazed through the living room, making the wooden floor creack under her feet. In an instant, she closed a door behind her and sat in absolute darkness, ignoring where on the house she was. The house remained silent. No one had noticed Akane's stampede, for no one seemed to ihabit the building. Everything remained deserted and silent. Only a soft morning breeze could be heard as it blew its way through the garden. A light white fog slowly condensed close to Nerima's ground, softly engulfing everything. Time seemed to stop as a ghastly glow invaded the atmosphere. Silence prevailed. On the kitchen, Kasumi was washing the dishes from breakfast. She looked through the window, feeling the silence and desolation that existed outside. Calmly she continued working, while looking out. She suddenly looked down, to find her hands holding a big knife. She stared at it, her big eyes straining, as if they couldn't see well. Her delicate fingers softly caressed the blade. As the water on the knife slid away, Kasumi saw her own reflection on the smooth metal surface, and she abruptly recoiled, droping the knife into the sink. She pressed her hands aganist her face and exhaled slowly. She stood still for a short while, and then walked out of the kitchen with her eyes still closed, not even pushing the little curtain at the door appart with her hand, but letting it slide over her face. At an slow pace, Kasumi walked to the front door and got out to the garden. She walked with her bare feet over the paved road, absorbing the cold silence around her. Eventually, she reached the door on the wall, and slowly turned the lock. The hinges creacked a little as she turned the door open, and then Kasumi opened her eyes. -----------------------------------------------------------Part 1: The arrival------------------- As Kasumi's eyes opened, the fog, the silence and the coldness vanished. Birds began to sing, people walked down the street, and cars could be heard far away, while summer's sun began to warm up the enviroment. Then she saw him. A man standed in front of her. Kasumi nearly recoiled, but could control herself as she began to analize him. At first she lowered her head, greeting the stranger, and taking a glimpse at his black boots, then she lifted her sight up his black suit, noticing how his pants got tight at certain points, partially revealing a musculature otherwise concealed by the suit. Under his buttoned jacket, he wore a white shirt, and a black silk tie. He had his arms crossed over his torso, and his body was tense and still. She ran her eyes up his thin, pale neck, up to his face. She blinked. He didn't look very atractive. In fact, Kasumi even felt a bit of repulsion. His face wasn't ugly, its round, soft features, the small lips and pale skin even made him look very young. But the white stripe that went through his black hair on the left of his head said otherwise. His eyes were covered by sunglasses. Kasumi blinked. The man was supposed to be a good fighter. Her father had agreed to let him stay at their house while he stayed in Japan, for it would bring publicity, as well as a good experience for the Tendou Academy. At that point, Kasumi was suprised to find such a fragile looking man, who wasn't even taller than herself; her eyes where as high as his forehead. She smiled, as if all her being had suddenly returned. she thought to herself. The man seemed to react at her change, and bowed forward. Kasumi then gathered enough strength to speak "Welcome to the Tendou Martial Arts Academy, I'm Kasumi" After her rather nervous introduction, the man uncrossed his arms -moment in which Kasumi noticed his black leather gloves- and retrieved his sunglasses. Kasumi froze momentarily. The surroundings of his eyes were dark a coal, making it look as if he stared from inside a cave. His eyes, on the other hand, seemed to glow. They were emerald green, actually beatifull, but something in them made his glare unbearable, so Kasumi turned her sight away. He softly advanced. Kasumi felt his gloved hand grabbing hers, lifting it to his lips, where he softly kissed just above her knuckles. Kasumi, suprised, blushed momentarily, as he spoke with french accent "Thanks for your invitation. My name is Vincent" He carefully restored Kasumi's hand to its former position. She was a little annoyed at his voice. It sounded manly, gentle, with a strong french accent, but below there was another accent, one so odd that Kasumi dared not decipher its origin. She kindly stepped aside, showing the way in, but he did not accept entering before her, as he didn't accept her carring his black bag. Silently they walked back into the house. Kasumi noticed that she was wearing no shoes. As they got in, Vincent excused himself for not leaving his boots at the door. Kasumi understood, and proceeded to show him his room. The rest of the morning went nearly as any other sunday morning. It wasn't long before Soun and Genma began playing shogi. Nabiki roamed around, reading magazines and making some phone calls, while Kasumi resumed her chores. Nobody noticed Ranma and Akane's absence. Back in the dojo, Ranma was still sitting on the floor. He had recovered his natural color and stopped sweating, but his legs still felt weak. He was thinking over what had happened, whishing he could go to Akane, to talk about it, but unable to gather enough will power to do it. And so the morning passed slowly. "Ranma! Akane! Lunch!" screamed Kasumi with her sweet voice. Deep in the darkness of the room, lost in her own house, Akane didn't move. Ranma, on the other hand, could finally stand, and weakly walked towards the living room. As he got out of the dojo, he was splashed with cold water. "Oooh! My beautiful Ranma!" Said a cranky voice as a little object attached to onna Ranma's chest. "Happosai you disgusting...." Ranma's strength was back. The people at the table didn't even look when Ranma landed in front of the living room, squashing Happosai on the ground, and then rebounding and landing at her place on the table. "That old goat..." She mumbled while picking her chopsticks. Genma, who was in panda form, handled a sign to Ranma. She used the sign to block Happosai, who was trying to glomp her breasts again. She then kicked him into the sky. The rest of the family showed signs with numbers, scoring Ranma's performance. Applause followed. "Why aren't we eating already?" Asked Ranma. Nabiki looked up from her magazine "Kasumi's gone upstairs" "What?! I'm hungry!" Genma bited Ranma's arm. She hitted him with her elbow, and so they began fighting. Soun lifted his eyes from the table, sighed softly and looked at the fight. His head turned gigantic. "WILL YOU TWO STAY CALM?!" He went back to normal, leaving Genma and Ranma completely frozen. Nabiki kept reading. It wasn't long before Ranma and Genma begun fighting again, this time with their chopsticks. Soun was to intervene when he heards Kasumi coming down the stairs. He smiled, but then froze as heavy steps, way too heavy to be either Kasumi or Akane, went down the stairs. The rest heard it too. Kasumi walked nervously "This is Vincent" She said, pointing behind her "He is the student father talked about" Then Vincent stepped in, his presence causing a mix of amazement and aversion on the family. Nabiki slowly analized him; Genma quickly turned back; Ranma froze; and Soun's eyes seemed to push out of his skull. Vincent spoke a short "Greetings" and sat in the place that Kasumi pointed out for him. Eventually, Nabiki smiled, and Soun recovered the power to speak. "Welcome to our humble home" He said, fighting to keep his tone calmed. "I am Soun Tendou, head of this family. This is my older daugther Kasumi..." He paused, then pointed at Nabiki "She's my second daugther, Nabiki" "How'ya doing?" She said cheerfully. Vincent bowed forward in response. Sound turned to Genma and Ranma, ignoring the fact of them being transformed "And that is my good friend Genma Saotome and his son Ranma" He suddenly relized what he had said, and went pale. Vincent didn't react, he just bowed to Genma and Ranma, and then back to Soun. "My name is Vincent" he said with his french accent "I hope my pressence presents no disturbance" "Not at all!" answered Nabiki, who seemed to be inmune to Vincent's strange effect on people. As Kasumi began to serve the food, Nabiki chatted with Vincent. His answers were alawys short and ambiguous, but still Nabiki managed to find out a little about France and himself, but not to much. She seemed fascinated at him. She even helped him with the chopsticks, for he didn't have much experience, although he learned quickly. Soun remained silent, ocasionally looking at Kasumi, who answered by smiling soflty. Kasumi herself observed Vincent and his extremely good manners. Such was the effect Vincent had, that no one noticed that Akane was missing. Genma and Ranma kept frozen on the same position they had when Vincent stepped in. -End part 1- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Author's notes: -Ok, the title is lame. This is my first try at a Ranma 1/2 fanfic. -All behold my poor narrative! -Although I'm trying to make an emotional/mysterious fanfic, there are some comical elements (All hail Takahashi). -I know, the structure of the paragraphs is Wragh. -Oh, don't expect many Japanese names, for I don't know japanese, and all the Ranma 1/2 material I've ever seen has been completely translated (Except for some fanfics I've recently readed). -Vincent is not coincidential. He is a well defined character (At least for me) and that's why I use so much space in his definition (We all know how Ranma looks). -If this looks confusing, well, it's the first part of a more or less defined story. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, there's the first part. Hope you like it. I'm new at this so be merciful (That is: make CONSTRUCTIVE criticism!). Oh, my english is wragh, so errors are kinda usual. If you find them and are in the mood, report them, or just laugh at my pathetical excuse of writing. I'll continue writting unless I find my e-mail adress crammed up with bomb-mail or else.
