The following interview was done with grind masters CENOTAPH from Turkey. They recently released 'Puked Genital Purulency' from Hammer Records. If you haven't heard this underground's one of the most brutal and talented bands don't wait, this bands' releases are essential for every grind sicko.Interview was done with the band's bass player,BULENT,enjoy it!And again thanx him for making this thing possible.

1)How goes everything for Cenotaph? How's your "Puked..."moving around the scene? How has the underground treated you so far?
The band's works has been suspended for a while. We have some new songs written for the upcoming album but no rehearsals for now.You know this time the promotion is bigger than the last time, you can come across to our reviews in many magazines, web zines, zines and in numuerous comps. Such as Nuclear Blast Soundcheck Series Volume 20 and Necromance magazine comp.By this promotion we had a chance to reach more people. This led much more ideas come to the light about us.Most of them are amazing as placed on our web page but on the other hand we compherended that you can not satisfy everybody.
2)Your vocalist Batu is now living in Austria. How has this affected the band?s works and how do you carry on your works?
I don't know wheter this effects our situation as we still don't begin to work on the songs but I assume that it won't effect us.the music carry more importance in the band and after getting done all the musical job, it's not so hard for Batu to come down here and record the vocals.
3)Is it hard to be an underground band in Turkey when thinking about the general circumstances?
The general circumstances in Turkey prevent this band thing to become more than a hobby, I am not sure, this may be the same drawback for all the bands around the world as long as your sales are not great. So we have to make our livings from other things. From this aspect this reflects the hard side of the continuation of a band..
4)What were your goals when you started the band?Have you achieved any? And where do you see Cenotaph going from this point on?
Either the future and the musical direction of the band will be determined by the time.At the begining we just tried to play as fast as possible, technical and in the most brutally shaped form we knew, then we decided to release the material. For now I can say we are satisfied with the past and have some different goals for now which will be done soon.
5)The musicianships on "Puked..."was awesome excellent? Are you pleased with your current musicianships or trying to be better?
We all appreciate you. This is our custumory motto. The upcoming one will be better than the existing ones. The first album and the second one include everything that could have been possible from the musical, technical and recording sides at that time.
6)Are you pleased with your releases and satisfied with Hammer Music's works? How a label can effect a band's works, future etc.?What has Hammer done for you that you really pleased with?
The labels' decisions are the most important part for a band's future.A band is nothing without a good promotion. Also the band must find the appropriate label for themselves. If the label is not into your music then the story ends at the begining.Besides the powerful promotion, the cd cover, layout, quality of the pressing etc. are the main parts for effecting the consumer and a must for both of the parts succes.I can not say all of the above mentioned things have been sufficently done for us.
7)What are your opinions on the current state of underground and the scene in Turkey?
I don't think I have enough knowledge to make a comment about the scene in Turkey but the outer underground scene is great and you can find some amazing bands...
8)I know that the members each are also into different styles of music, from jazz to other kinds of extreme music like black, hardcore etc.How does this effect your music?
The combination of different styles adapted to grind core is the answer we are searching for. So according to this assumption our interest in other kinds increase our level of creation..You can find parts from you in every kind of music but the way of expressing yourself have to be unique.
9)Are there any new songs and when will the next release will be out? Futureplans? Will it be released from Hammer or you'll be signed to another label?
4 songs are complete but no future plans for now.
10)I know that you can't perform live so many in Turkey,am i right? What are the reasons for that? Not having enough live performances,do you think will cause serious problems in future? In some interviews you've also mentioned that you can't afford touring and having gigs outside.
We are all students and this not only effects the rehearsals but also the gigs.So it seems like the band is turned out to be a studio project as we are hardly able to arrange the suitable times for all of us.And the other reason is after recording the album we never play the songs again and always start to work on the new ones.
11)Does your music reflect any of your ideas, feelings related with real life? What are your influences when writing songs?
I am not concerned with the lyrical part of the production, for the musical part I can say the main aim is to represent the feelings which life has given us so they are of course releated with the feelings, ideas and the way we percieve life.Everything can be an influence, not just music.
12)Do you think Cenotaph has an original sound and according to you are there any differences that make Cenotaph unique when compared with other death/grind bands in the scene?
I don't think we have an original original sound but the song writing can be considered as original on the other hand. The scene is full of talented musicians.the technical riffing does not always mean quality or orginality.I appreciate bands which make cool arrangements with simple riffs.
13)Do you feel that in the scene, the bands help each other on their ways or that there's a dishonest competition that some bands couldn't achieve the things that they deserve?
I don't believe that a band can help another. No one can make your band release a cd or demo and it's of course not possible for anybody to prevent you from getting what you deserve. It's just your intention and devotion for the target that will make your band succesful.
14)That's all for now,and thanks for the interview again. So your last words...
Thanks for the interview.Take care...
