So, you're curious as to just how accurate CHOPPER really is.
Well, I will start by telling you that CHOPPER CHOPs to the byte, and sometimes even 1 byte at a time (though not so often). Here is an example of that accuracy in action.
I started with a ZIP file about 113mb, containing various files. I chopped this file into 10 equal (nearly...the file had an odd size), then encrypted each piece with my fav encryption software; Cryptext*. After encrypting them, I renamed them, then used a batch file* to copy the renamed/encrypted pieces into one file.
Now here's the tricky part: Cryptext sometimes (if not always) adds a few extra bytes to each file it encrypts. This was key to the next step, which was chopping that file back into pieces, then decrypting the pieces, then regrouping them back into the original file.
After all this, the before and after files were EXACTLY identical. No differences were found by FC.exe*. Upon testing the ZIP integrity, WinZip* detected no errors. All the files were extracted and viewed, run, or otherwise tested for integrity. I found no variations between the original files and the tested files.
I doubt you can get more accurate than that...hehe...even with a COMPUTER !

FOOTNOTES:

Cryptext:
this is EXCELLENT encryption software. I say this not because it's free (CHEERS !), but because it's fast, versatile, and easy to use. Cryptext adds the 'Encrypt' and 'Decrypt' commands to the context menu of a file (right-click, unless you're left-handed). Multiple files can be encrypted, and you can even encrypt the contents of folders, subfolders, etc...
You might find it here: http://www.pcug.au.org/~njpayne
(if that link is no longer active, search for it on Yahoo or something. You won't hafta look far)

FC.exe: standard File Compare program. This one came with my O/S (Win98), and is probablyy available with most, if not all, Windows releases. Run it from a DOS prompt, and compare as Binary or ASCII (a few other options, too, but these are the two I use for CHOPPER testing). You can probably find this program at www.microsoft.com

Makbatch.exe: This program comes with CHOPPER. Originally intended to be used IN chopper, but I decided to make it a stand-alone, cause I tend to have need to create these types of batch files. It works fine when receiving instructions from CHOPPER, but if you try it by itself, it might take you a while to get the hang of. See MAKBATCH.TXT for info on using it as stand-alone.

WinZip: This is perhaps the easiest compression software to use. Actually, I've only tested a couple other brands. HEY ! If it works, don't fix it, huh? I like Winzip cause you can customize the toolbar, among the MANY other options. Get a trial version of it at www.winzip.com.

This is the end of this file. I'd write more, but it's too long already !
