WARNING ! WARNING ! WARNING !
MIXMASTER is NOT a toy ! It is powerful encryption ! don use it without reading ALL the documentation that comes with it, and if there's something you don't understand, read it AGAIN ! I'm serious ! You can REALLy screw up yer files with this, if you don't pay heed to your actions !

Well, now that you've been warned, let's get on with it, huh ?

As stated above, MIXMASTER is POWERFUL encryption ! Haven't seen anything like it, and probably won't find another encryption method like it anywhere ! (too slow, for one thing.)

Yes, it's slow, but damned good ! How does it work ?
First, you select a file to mix (multiple file encryption not yet implemented), then you specify a password, then click the "MIX/UnMIX" button.

This launches MixMaster into action. First, the prog identifies a value for each char of the pass you specify. Then it begins reading the file you want mixed, identifying a value for each char of the file, as well. Lemme put this simple. The first char of the file is changed according to the value of the first char of the pass. The second char of the file changed according to the second char of the pass, and so on. After the last char of the pass, MixMaster starts back to the first char of the pass, and the next char of the file. This process continues until the last char of the file.

As I said, MixMaster is S-L-O-W !I am taking steps to make it as fast as possible, but Im afraid it may never match up to the speed of some other encryption utilities you will find. I wrote it for STRENGTH, not SPEED, and I will not sacrifice it's strength for speed, or any other reason (like users inability to remember passwords).

Be sure not to forget your password. MixMaster doesn't store them ANYWHERE. Not in the file you mix, not in the registry, not in an INI file, not ANYWHERE ! If you forget your password, and you know your password was over 4 chars, throw the file in the trash, or archive it hoping someday you will remember. I wrote MixMaster for strong encryption, and that's exactly what it is !

MixMaster does NOT check to see if the password is correct b4 Mix/UnMix. For this reason, I wrote it to write the encryption to a different file, and added the option to delete/flush the original. If you select either, or both, of these options, you're on your own. The Mixed file is virtually uncrackable, and the flushed original is unrecoverable (if the "Flush" option is selected the file will be overwritten B4 being deleted).

MixMaster uses a special naming convention when Mixing/UnMixing files. The extension ".MX*" (where '*' specifies how many times the file was Mixed) will be added to the filename. If you select "Miltiple Mix/UnMix" option, or if you Mix a Mixed, or UnMix an UnMixed, file (yes this can be done), the extension will be adjusted accordingly. For example:
Say you want to Mix a file named "test.exe". The Mixed result will be named "test.exe.MX1". UnMixing "test.exe.MX1" will return to "test.exe".
If you mix a file named "test.exe.MX1", the new name will be "test.exe.MX2".
UnMixing "test.exe.MX2" will result in "test.exe.MX1"

The naming convention goes up to ".MX9", then will start over. Best to not Mix a file more than 9 times (and, though it can be done, you should not UnMix a file that is not Mixed).
Multiple mixing INCREASES the encryption strength, especially if you use a different password for each "layer" ! Also DECREASES chances of file recovery, should you forget your password.
To take advantage of the MultiMix function, just use the pull-down next to "Multiple Mix/UnMix" on the window. It will automatically mix according to the number you specify. This method will not allow you to MultiMix with different passwords. To do that, you will have to manually mix them as many times as you desire. Again, please do not Mix more than nine times.

One more thing (I think): If you mix with one password, then UnMix with another password, you have, in effect, SUPER-Mixed your file ! This is an option I have reserved for future versions, but feel free to do it manually, if you like.

WRAP-UP:
Let's go over the things we discussed.
First: MixMaster is NOT a toy, and can ruin your life if you are not careful !

Second: MixMaster is S-L-O-W ! but G-O-O-D !

Third: MixMaster changes the characters in the file according to values identified for the characters of your password.

Fourth: mixMaster was written for STRENGTH, not SPEED (see "Second: " above)

Fifth: MixMaster does NOT store your passwords ! If you forget your pass, delete the file ! (or archive it).

Sixth: MixMaster does NOT check to see if the password is correct B4 UnMixing, so you have the option to delete/flush the original file after processing.

Seventh: mixMaster uses the special naming convention of ".MX*", where '*' is shows the number of Mix layers used.

Eigth: SUPER-Mix is when you Mix a file with one password, then UnMix a file with a DIFFERENT password !

That's about it. Now you're ready for MixMaster ! (or, are you???). If you have any questions, or if there's something you don't understand, please read ALL of the documentation again. If your question or confusion remains, direct it to the email below. Details on how to use MixMaster can be found in "HowTo.txt" that came with this zip. If it's not in the zip, DELETE ALL !. I am serious !
