PROXYMASTER 062800

INSTALLATION:

Extract contents of "proxymaster.zip" to whatever folder
you want. Contents will extract to a sub-folder of the
folder you choose.

USAGE:

ProxyMaster will only work with Internet Explorer 4 or
5, and very little testing has been done, except to make
sure all the options work on MY MACHINE. Your system may
be set up different, so I would suggest you back up your registry before using this software. (see BACKING UP REGISTRY for more info).

ProxyMaster has a number of options. First and foremost, it allows you to change your proxy by either choosing from a custom list (one is provided, but may not be updated, so be sure to check them often !)

TO CHANGE YOUR PROXY, simply enter the proxy address and port, and click the "Change" button. Be advised there is no error checking here. The info you entered in the "Proxy:" box will be the proxy it sets, and the info you entered in the "Port:" box will, of course, be the port.
You can also choose a proxy from the custom list. Just click the pull-down bar and choose one. The info will be set in the Proxy and Port boxes (you'll se this), and the "Change" button will be clicked (I doubt you'll see this).
If you manually entered the proxy info, you can add it to the custom list simple by clicking the "Add" button.
(mind you, this process does not check for duplicates) If you want to remove a proxy from the custom list, simply select the unwanted proxy, and click the "Delete" button.

FOR THE JAVA, ACTIVEX, and COOKIES CONTROLS, you will either need to click the "-->" button, or select "File/Toggle Advanced" from the menu. This will show the advanced controls. Clicking ANY of these options will set you Internet Security" settings to the "Custom" option, despite what they are before hand. The "Enable" options simply return the settings to default (except the "custom" setting remains).

IE5 USERS: The "Paste via script" setting is adjusted when you click the Java Enable or Disable options, and ALL Cookies settings are adjusted with the Cookies options. Mebbe I will chnge this later. Mebbe not. As this writing, I don use IE5, and don plan to. Much "Change the Cookies options" email might motivate me.

LAUNCH MENU: This is a little extra I included, to make it easier to check your internet settings, get to my website, launch WWWHACK if you have it (or get it if you don't...in this case, select "Launch/WHACK" and enter a "?" in the messagebox that pops up, then click "Yes". This will launch my homepage, so make sure you have an active INET connection.), and check your proxy (this will launch the Cavency proxy site, where you should click the ENV1, ENV2, etc...links

HELP MENU: This don do nothin yet. Why it's there, mebbe just to remind me to MAKE it do something !

FILE/CONVERT MENU: This is something I set up for myself. I use WWWHACK to check proxies, (only to make sure they work), so I use the "Convert" window to convert proxy lists from WHACK to PROXYMASTER, or vice-versa. It also has a couple of launch buttons on it.

NOTICE: When I find a useful program to scan for proxies, I will ATTEMPT to make PROXYMASTER compatible with it, or at least point the WHACK launch to it. Actually I don use WWWHACK that often, but I found it useful for proxy-checking (note that it doesn't test for anon proxies, just if the proxy works).

BACKIN UP THE REGISTRY:
To back up your registry (recommended before using ProxyMaster), goto the start menu and click "Run", then type in "Regedit" and click "OK" to open the registry editor. In here, click "Registry/Export registry". Select a location and name, make sure the "All" box is checked, and click "Save".
To restore the registry, double-click the file you just saved.

KNOWN ISSUES/BUGS/ERRORS:
If you create a shortcut to ProxyMaster, be sure to change the "Start in" path of the shortcut to point to the directory of ProxyMaster. To do this, right-click the shortcut, make sure the "Shortcut" tab is selected, and type the directory path of ProxyMaster in the "Start in" box. Then click the "apply" button. If you get an error, make sure the path is correct. Also might want to put the path in quotations (""). Windows is screwy about this. Proxymaster is dependant on the path here, so it will know where it's files are.
If you try to launch WWWHACK, and it pops up an input box, enter the location of wwwhack.exe (if you have it) If you make a mistake here, and click "OK", another error will pop up and ask you if you want to download it. Just click the "No" button, then try to launch the WWWHACK again. You'll get another chance to enter the correct path. ProxyMaster will then store this info in an INI file, which it will read each time it opens. Funny thing, that's the only thing stored in the INI !
