Venus is a rocky sphere with dense, yellowish clouds. These clouds reflect a lot of sunlight making Venus the brightest object in the sky after the Sun and the Moon. Venus has a thick atmosphere, which makes it very hot. Surface temperatures can reach 480 C (896 F) and the atmosphere pressure is 90 times that on Earth. The clouds yellow color is caused by sulfuric acid. There may still be some active volcanos on Venus. You can see Venus shine brightly in our Earths sky because the clouds that are on Venus reflects most of the sunlight. The swirls that you see on Venus are caused by high altitude wind systems. Venus is one of the 2 planets that rotate on it's axis in a backward direction. Pluto is the other planet that does this.
