Bloody hell - that must be a first. That review in december's issue made me decide never to waste money on PC Format again. You, sir, have unfortunately fell for the PowerPR. Others have also. I don't need an upgrade as my 3dfx kicks ass in it's first incarnation, and I don't have to wait for the second (although I believe that the second incarnation of 3dfx, when and if it arrives, will make ALL others look like "cack"). This company has proved their worth the first time out, while PowerPR has to make PowerPR2 to correct all the problems with PowerPR1 (lack of bilinear filtering and not-so-great Direct3D performance). Enjoy Ultimate Race while I play: GlQuake, Scourge of Armagon, Mechwarrior2, Pod, Tomb Raider. This is exactly the reason why I stopped my subscription to PC Format a long time ago. They know less about PC technology than a monkey 's arse. They make mistakes like this all the time, hyping one product and playing down another. After a couple of months, they realise they were foolish to believe what one hardware manufacturer told them, and then they suddenly change their advice. After a while, they might even call YOU foolish for buying the first product they hyped. ========================================================================== Path: news.demon.co.uk!dispatch.news.demon.net!demon!rill.news.pipex.net !pipex!tank.news.pipex.net!pipex!dircon!not-for-mail From: Rob Dunlop Newsgroups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video Subject: 3DFX in UK for 129 quid including vat!! If you live in the UK and you did not hear about the FLASH3d you might find their price sexy to say the least. 3dfx with 40ns ram for 129 pounds all inclusive. That is a KILLER deal. Check PC FORMAT (I think) for a positive review and mail order number. Some guy in news.3dfx.com says you can buy one from M-Squared in Portsmouth. Oh yeah, it's the issue of PC Format where they apologize for not praising 3dfx earlier. Seems like UK mags are finally admitting how good the chipset is (and what support it's getting). They're a little slow off the mark but better late than never:) So if you don't have a 3dfx and you live in the UK go get one! Then I'll let you know about the special 3dfx hand-shake and the secret meetings we have (last week Gary T showed up in full masonic regalia).
