high
up high
in the crook of a branch
leaning against wood
gazing over an extensive, beautiful view
thinking, pondering, contemplating whatever comes to mind
you, me, the rest of the world, the universe
a cool breeze in the warm air
it's been drizzling
but bright now
i like it here
...
i see you passing below
below on the street
i call out
a friendly waye, a cheery smile exchanged
greetings, and an invitation
the roof
knowing smiles, and you proceed upward
up a ladder conveniently placed
i move toward an overhanging limb
with the intention of dropping beside you
the branch is wet
a slip,
a hand, a foot
off balance
a spinning view of the grass below
a sickening fall
my hand flails, grasps something
another hand extended
a sharp pull, a kick off the brick
foot over the eaves trough
shingles are safety
grab the chimney until vertigo subsides
heart rate slows
your face is tearstained
a hand here, all is consoled soon
i'll take the long way next time.
