Athame

Double-sided ritual knife/ dagger (often black-handled) used
for many purposes but never for cutting. Most witches use
it to channel energy. Sometimes, a sword is used for
elaborate rituals.

Censers/ Incense stick burner

To hold the incense (duh). Censers are often swung about during
the ritual for several purposes (e.g to seal the circle)

Colored candles are used to aid many aspects of magick by the
use of their variuos hues to help bring about desired forms of
energy.

To cleanse area before a ritual. Sweeps away the astral build-up
caused by people everyday. NOT to fly on.

Crystal Ball

A popular tool for divination. Used for scrying, calling upon past
life images, storing raised power, or recieving messgaes.
It helps to heighten psychic awareness, and exposing it to
moonlight once in a while can help even more. When looking
for a Crystal Sphere, Quartz crystals are the best. They are
also the most expensive (sometimes thousands of dollars.)

Cloak

Many witches use robes as a religious symbol that they are
partaking in a sacred rite. The cloaks and robes are
to be worn only during rituals and the donning of a
robe or cloak often helps the witch to get into the
right frame of mind for her rite.

Pentacle

Flat disc made of wood/clay/metal/wax inscribed with the
pentagram which is a 5-pointed star. It may bear other
inscriptions as well. Element of Earth. Used for

Wand

The wand is mainly used for invocation of the deities (something

Most practioners of Elementalism and Wicca use tools to aid them

in focusing their energy and intent during rituals. They "enrich
rituals by symbolising complex energies". However, tools are far
from being a nessecity.

Power and magick comes from within one's self, not from the tools
one uses. Tools are used only to channel that energy and
power. However, some believe that tools are charged with energy
each time they are used. Thus, over time, they become increasingly
empowered as they are charged with more and more energy.

Lastly, tools that one uses should be comfortable to one. If one
does not see the need for a cauldron, one should not burden
one's ritual by the inappropriate use of one. Also, when
choosing tools, only buy something that calls to you. Such
tools tend to function better than something you bought out
of desperation for the need of one. Remember, a tool that
you feel a deep connection with will invoke a greater
faith in its ability in one's subconscious mind and thus
magnify one's energy automatically. Nothing can ever be
accomplished without faith.
