Vivian Stanshall | Sir Henry At Rawlinson End Sir Henry at Ndidi's Kraal |
Viv was a perfect English Eccentric, very witty and very funny. Sir Hentry At Rawlinson End started as a track on the Bonzo Dog Band's final album, l"Let's Make Up And Be Friendly". It the became a couple of extended radio sessions for John Peel, and then an album and finally a film starring the wonderful Trevor Howard as Sir Henry. It's about Sir Henry and is family who live at Rawlinson End and huge rotting English pile. SIr Henry has his own private prisoner of war camp , and takes pot shots at hang gliders. He doesn't like being seen in public so goes in disguise as an african native riding a unicycle. Full of brilliant dialogue, buy it and see it for your own good. Channel Four show the film every now and then, so if you're a skinflint you can tape it. It's in sepia black 'n' white by the way and contains some immortal lines.... "If I had all the money I'd spent on drink , I'd spend it on drink" Watch out for Hubert's bird impression. Viv was an excellent Elvis impersonator and contributed a scathing track to the soundtrack of "That'll Be The Day" called "Real Leather Jacket".

Wild Man Fischer | An Evening With Wild Man Fischer |
Larry Fischer was discovered by Frank Zappa seeling songs for a dime on some street corner. That is you paid him a dime and he'd make up an sing a song for you. Some of it was funny and som was bad. He worked best without music, I don't know if he's still around, but was making records for Rhino. Once Larry was on campus going to meet his brother....Larry had the axe and his brother had the bad luck Sample lyric "Miss Jennifer Jones is lyng dead on my porch / do do do do do doo" Be afraid of this music |
Phillip Glass | Koyanasqaatsi |
The first twenty minutes of this film are breathtaking. A slo-mo/fast-mo trip across the American landscape, the the accompaniment of Glass' repetitive motif. See it |
