Chapter Eight

"I will need ideas and suggestions on how to prevent The Legacy from finding that out." Kathleen announced at the beginning of the meeting.

"There is a package at the House," said Justis. "that contains information on The Legacy."

"I have not thought about this." Kathleen replied. "Good idea, Justis."

"There is a problem." said Salome. "How will we get the package?"

"It is near to impossible to take anything from the House." Metis pointed out. "I don't think    anyone would be able to steal anything from that place."

"I disagree." said Dara. "Someone did managed to steal something from the House. I am not sure what but the two men tampered with the alarm and stole something of value."

"Well, I think the place now have extra security since that happened." said Kathleen. "And that makes it way impossible to steal anything from the House."

"Not if anyone is inside." replied Dara. "How about a party?"

"A party?" echoed Kathleen. "What about it?"

"A party is a way to get them out of the house." Dara explained. "It would not change the  difficulty of getting in and stealing the package but it would be a little easier."

Kathleen thought about it and agreed. "Good idea, Dara." said Kathleen. "Let's vote on that idea. Anyone?"

"What would we do if not everyone comes out of the House?" asked Salome.

"Good question." said Dara. "I have no idea about that one."

"We better hope for the best." Kathleen said. "Hope may be all we have for the moment."

"The plan is," said Dara. "that Salome and I will go out on the pretense of going to a place where it will be the House. Salome here is excellent with alarms and we can get in."

"Um, guys?" Justis said. "I don't think we should be holding a party."

     "Why not?" asked Dara.

"No time." Kathleen spoke up. "Wise thinking, Justis. We can't just announce we are having a party in two days. It's not good."

Dara looked disappointed. "Oh well." she sighed.

"We need something that would lure the entire group somewhere outside the House so we can get in and take the package." said Kathleen. "Something valuable, something extremely important…"

     "Relatives, maybe?" suggested Metis.

"Relatives like mother, sister.. hmm.. " Salome said.

"Derek's mother, Nick's mother, Philip's and Alex's parents are still alive." said Dara. "Derek and Alex each has a sister."

     "What about Rachel?" asked Justis.

"She had no parents." explained Dara. "The only relative she has is her daughter, Kat."

"The plan here," replied Kathleen. "is to get the entire group out of the House. So any idea on how to do that?"

"I suggest on using Derek's mother to lure Derek and Philip, Kat for Rachel and Alex's sister for Alex and Nick." said Justis.

"Good idea. Anyone agrees or disagrees with Justis?" said Kathleen.

"I agree." said Dara. Salome and Metis nodded.

"Perfect. The plans will go into effect immediately." replied Kathleen.

The phone rang and the butler answered it. "Mr.Rayne, it's for you."

     Derek took the phone. "Derek."

It was his sister. "Derek! Mother is missing!" Roberta cried. "I came to the house today to visit Mother but she is nowhere to be found!"

"Calm down, Roberta." said Derek. "Have you checked.."

"Yes!" said Roberta. "We need your help!"

"Okay. I'm on my way." said Derek and hang up. "Philip!"

Philip was walking by the den. He turned at the sound of his name. "My mom is missing. I will have to go and help find her. Will you join me?"

     "Sure." replied Philip.

The phone rang again. This time it is for Rachel. "Hi, Rachel." said Jose, Kat's babysitter. "Kat is really sick. We are in Children's Hospital. She needs you right away."

Rachel know better than to ask. "Derek, I must go. Kat is not feeling good and she is in the hospital."

"I hope Kat gets better soon." said Derek. When Rachel left the room, he turned to Philip. "I have a funny feeling about this."

The phone rang and this time it is for Nick. When he hung up, he turned to Derek and said, "My mom is missing. They can't find her."

That's it! Derek thought. Someone wants us out of the castle.

"Call your mother's place." Derek said. Nick and Philip looked at him. "Do it."

Nick dialed the number and his eyes widened when someone answered it. "Hi, Mom."

"How do you know?" whispered Philip.

"A guts feeling." That was all Derek said.

Justis was watching the house. Rachel had left the house and Derek and Philip followed her few minutes later with Nick and Alex. All were wearing worried expressions on their faces.

"Everyone have left the house." said Justis into the phone.

"Excellent." said Dara. She turned to Kathleen. "What's the matter?" Kathleen was wearing a funny expression. "Someone may be staying at the house, right, Kathleen?" Kathleen nodded. "Are you sure everyone have left the house, Justis?"

"I'm sure." said Justis, sounding annoyed. "Derek and Philip went in Derek's car, Rachel in her car and Nick and Alex in Alex's car."

"Dara, you and Justis will proceed into the house." said Kathleen. "We cannot risk all four      members being caught. Salome, Metis and I will be behind you, finding a way in to get the     package."

"Okay." said Justis before signing off.

Kathleen turned to Salome, Dara and Metis. "Here is the plans. There is a risk of you being caught. Salome, Metis and I will be following you. If someone is in the den, Metis will find a way to distract her or him so Salome and I can get in and get the package. Any   questions?" There was none. "Let's go then."

"What took you so long?" Justis grunted when Dara joined him.

"Plans change." Dara told him of the recent changes and a warning from Kathleen.

"What's stopping us from going in?" Justis grinned.

They crept silently up to the front door where Justis, wearing leather gloves, tried to open the front door. It was locked so he picked the lock. It was not long before they found themselves in the house.

"Hurry." whispered Justis. "Before they get back here."

"Where is the den?" Dara whispered back.

"I have no idea but let's go looking for the room." said Justis. "It must be upstairs."

"I am having a funny feeling that someone is in the house." said Dara.

"No way." replied Justis. "I have watched them leave."

They did not talk to each other as they went up the stairs and into the room that have round windows in the doors.

"Wrong room." Justis said, after seeing there is no package in the room. "Let's go."

"Not so fast." Justis and Dara turned around and faced the barrel of Nick's gun.

"Let's go!" Kathleen said and the group went up to the den's window. There was no lights on so Kathleen and Metis opened the window. "I'll get it." Kathleen got into the Den and when she got to the table, put down a new box she was carrying and put everything in it.   Kathleen was at the window when the lights turned on.

"Stop where you are!" said Philip.

Instead of stopping, Kathleen handed the box down to Metis and whispered, "Run!"

Philip ran around the table to stop Kathleen from leaving the room. it was when he found himself stuck to the ground and could not speak. From the expression on Alex's face, Philip could tell Alex is having the same trouble. Helpless, he watched Kathleen got out of the window. It was not long before he could move and talk. "Derek! Nick! The package  is gone!"

When Derek heard the package was gone, he ran to the window with Nick at his heels and looked out of the window.

Kathleen was running across the front lawn when she felt someone's eyes on her. She stopped and looked up. Derek was watching her. I'm sorry, Derek. Kathleen thought.

Derek frowned even more as she ran into the darkness and vanished.

"We can find out what they wanted from these two we caught." said Nick.

     "What two?" asked Alex.

Nick and Derek turned around. In the places of Justis and Dara are Alex and Philip and the two strangers were nowhere to be found.
