Chapter Eleven

"How did you get in here?" Derek almost snarled at Hitchcock.

Hitchcock didn't answer his question. Instead, he turned to Peter. "Come on, let's get going."

Peter held up his hands, which were handcuffed. "I can't. My hands are tied." he said.

    "Uncuff him." said Hitchcock.

"What will happen if we refuse to?" asked Nick.

Hitchcock pulled out a gun and pointed it at Kathleen. "I will kill her." was his answer.

Nick looked at Derek. "Do it." he said.

Nick pulled out the key to the handcuffs and uncuffed him. Peter smirked while he rubbed his wrists. Kathleen's expression didn't change. She didn't glare or look angry. So Peter's smirk turned to a frown of disappointment when he noticed he could not get anything out of his so-called ex-girlfriend. It wasn't long before he followed his father out.

"Why did you do that?" was the first question out of Kathleen's mouth directed at Derek.

    Derek blinked. "Do what?"

    "Uncuffing him." replied Kathleen.

    "Kathleen, be reasonable." said Alex.

"Yeah, no one wants Peter around anyway." said Nick.

Kathleen sighed. "I'm sorry. Lots had been happening lately and most of it were unpleasant." she
said.

"That's okay." replied Philip. "Most of it were unpleasant to us, too."

Derek was staring at Kathleen. He yearned to kiss her lips and to wrap his arms around her. Why am  I so in love with Kathleen Gorman? Derek thought. Why is that the mere sight of her made my  heart ache? Is that something around her that is attracting me to her?

At the same time, Kathleen was having thoughts. Why am I attracted to Derek Rayne? He is
probably not my type. I must get away from here, at least for a few weeks. Suddenly, Salome
was talking to her.

Why are you hiding this? Salome said. Why are you denying your love for Derek?

I told you. Kathleen replied. Derek is not my type and I don't think I am that much in love with him.

I heard his thoughts. said Salome. Derek yearned to kiss you, to hug you…

That's what he wanted. replied Kathleen. I don't know what I wanted right now but I do believe I need a week off.

Get off it. Salome said. You're just being mean.

I am not being mean. protested Kathleen. I told you over and over, Derek is not my type.

And how do you know this? asked Salome.

I have a gut feeling. What more do I need? said Kathleen.

Get a life, Kathleen. Salome replied. Even you can't deny Derek is in love with you.

 "Kathleen?" It was Nick.

I must go. Kathleen said. "Yes?"

    "You okay?" asked Nick.

    "I'm fine." replied Kathleen.

"What will we do now?" said Alex.

"Right now, we don't have to worry about Peter." said Kathleen. "All we know, is that in two days, we will find out whose body The Legacy is in."

"The Legacy is in a female body, correct?" asked Alex.

"Correct." answered Derek. "It was said that one of the four women from Kathleen's place is The
Legacy… Kathleen, Metis, Salome or Dara."

"Let's go over to the Castle," Justis suggested. "and look through the information concerning The
Legacy."

"What are we waiting for? Let's do it." said Nick.

"Very well." said Derek with a smile. "Let's go then."

Metis, Salome and Dara were still in the basement when the group arrived.

"Look at this!" said Dara. "The Legacy invented Coca-Cola Classic!"

    "No way!" said Nick.

"Way!" replied Dara, showing him the papers.

"Now I believe it." Nick said after a few moments.

"The Legacy invented Coke?" Alex raised her eyebrows. "Wow."

"The Legacy was a E.A.D.A. before her death in 1970." said Salome.

    "E.A.D.A.?" asked Derek.

"Executive Assistant District Attorney." answered Kathleen.

    "Really?" said Justis. "Where?"

"New York." replied Salome. "It was told here that she was the E.A.D.A. "

"Other than that, there are really not much here about The Legacy." Metis answered.

"What do you mean?" asked Derek with a puzzled expression on his face.

"We have divided the documents into separate pieces." replied Dara. "This part concerns legal stuff, the second history and third The Legacy."

They can see the third section is not very big.

"I'd like to know something." said Alex. "What is so bad about finding out in whose body The Legacy is?"

Salome, Metis, Dara and Kathleen looked at each other. "We are worried that if someone finds out who The Legacy is in, her life would be at stake." said Salome.

"Not everyone wants The Legacy alive." replied Metis.

"For an example, Mr.Hitchcock." Dara added.

Why would Mr.Hitchcock kill The Legacy? Kathleen asked Dara. The Legacy did nothing.

Look at Derek. answered Dara. He only went along with him and Alicia on a mission that took her life. Derek did nothing!

    Kathleen didn't say anything.

"I have a feeling that no matter what happens," said Dara. "we will find out whose body The Legacy is in."

    "I agree." Salome said.

"Does Peter know where all those is?" Derek asked.

    "No." answered Kathleen.

"Are you sure?" Derek wanted to know.

"Yes, I am sure." said Kathleen.

"But one thing is for sure," Nick said. "Peter will not give up on whatever he is doing."

Kathleen turned around and left the room. Derek looked at Nick before following her. "What's
wrong?" he asked.

"Nothing." replied Kathleen as she went into the den.

Derek grabbed her by her arms. "Something is wrong." he said. "Why won't you let me help you?"

"Because, nothing is wrong." she said, sitting down at her desk.

"I don't believe you." replied Derek.

"Fine, don't believe me then." Kathleen said as she pulled out a piece of paper from a drawer.

Derek stared at her for what Kathleen felt was too long. "I don't believe you." said Derek. "I will find a way to help you and to get through this wall you have built between us."

Kathleen looked up from what she was doing. "I didn't know we're dating." replied Kathleen. She
regretted it when she saw the hurt expression on his face. Before Kathleen could say anything,
Derek turned around and walked out of the room. Damn. She thought. I put my foot in my mouth
again!

Just a minute after Derek left, Salome went into the room and closed the door behind her. "I heard the conversation between you and Derek." she said. "That was mean of you."

"Wait a minute.." said Kathleen. "Since when does private conversations become public?"

"Since Derek left the door opened." replied Salome.

"Well, the business between Derek and me is none of yours." Kathleen said. "If you don't mind, I
have some things to finish up first."

"I doubt you are The Legacy." said Salome. "The Legacy would not act like this."

"Fine." That was all Kathleen said before turning her attention back to the paper.

You might want to know, Salome started to speak, Derek is in love with you.

Great. Kathleen muttered sarcastically. Just what we need right now.

Fine, be that way. snapped Salome. She stormed out of the den, slamming the door behind her.

Kathleen winced at the sudden headache. She wish Salome would not have done that. Kathleen put up the pen and began to write.

The Search for The Legacy. I have recently talked with Derek Rayne and I have been rude
(regarding dating). Salome came in afterward and told me Derek is in love with me. I was sarcastic. I mean, I don't have time to talk about dating when we should be looking for The Legacy. What Salome said, about The Legacy, is that he doubts I am The Legacy. Well, I'm not The Legacy. There is no way I could ever be her.

    Kathleen. Someone whispered.

Kathleen's head snapped up but after seeing nothing, she went back to writing.

There is a confirmation about the relation between Peter and Mr.Hitchcock. Hitchcock is Peter's father. How come I can't seem to stop thinking about Derek Rayne???

    Kathleen…. That whispering again!

    "Who's there?" Kathleen called out.

Silence followed so she continued to write.

I hurt his feelings. How could I do this to him? I'm just denying myself. I have made a decision.. I will be leaving tonight on a pretense of going to meet a friend, when in reality, I will be staying in New York. Like Salome said, there is no way I could be The Legacy.

"Ladies and Gentlemen," Kathleen said as she walked into the den a few minutes later. "I have to go and meet a friend tonight. I will be back as soon as I can."

"Where are you going?" asked Nick.

    "San Francisco." answered Kathleen.

"It would make me feel better if I go with you." Derek said.

"No." said Kathleen. "My friend wants to meet me alone."

"Okay." replied Derek. But deep inside, he has a feeling Kathleen is lying.

"Bye." Kathleen went outside and walked down to her Volkswagen Beetle. It wasn't long before she drove away into the darkness. Derek hurried down to his truck to follow her.

In an hour, Kathleen drove to the parking lot of San Francisco Airport.

What's going on? Derek wondered. He watched Kathleen got out of her car and walked into the
airport. She's probably meeting her friend there. but deep inside, Derek began to have doubts. So
he got out of his truck and followed Kathleen into the airport.

Kathleen was unaware she was being followed by Derek. She walked up to the ticket counter and asked for a ticket to New York or anywhere near NYC.

"That will be $178, ma'am." the ticket clerk said.

Kathleen took out her MasterCard and handed it to the clerk.

Derek's eyes widened when he saw that. Kathleen's going to leave us! he thought. There is no
way I'm going to let that happen! "Kathleen!"

At the sound of her name being shouted in a busy airport, Kathleen twisted around and her eyes
narrowed when she saw Derek.

"There's your ticket, ma'am." said the clerk.

"Thank you." Kathleen said and began to run.

    "Kathleen, NOOO!" screamed Derek.
