Chapter Five

With all of this happening, it should come as no surprise when Derek went into the Den and closed the door. He quickly crossed the room to his desk and sat down. Taking out his journal, Derek began to write.

December 15, 1996

Yesterday, during a walk, Nick and I have made a startling discovery – a castle, fifteen minutes east, is almost identical to the House. The exceptions are a heliport and a fountain in the front. We have a heliport, but not the fancy one that castle has. There was a moving van out in the front and Nick found out, by one of the movers, that a group of young adults is moving in. We met two of them – Kathleen Gorman and Peter Welborne. Mr.Welborne is very protective of Ms.Gorman. Something strange had happened just as when we were leaving. Someone, most likely to be Ms.Gorman, had spoken to me, mind-to-mind. `I know you' were the exact words.

Rachel and Alex have returned from Edmonton this morning, surprising us. Later, we went to see the castle, and were told to stay off the property by Mr.Welborne. I have not, either did the rest of The Legacy, stepped on the private property. Nevertheless, we went ba—

–ck to the House.

What Peter had said must have arisen Nick's suspicions about the Castle. Otherwise, he would not have tried to break into the Castle. He was caught by the group and was released, with a fair warning. I imagined Nick came straight to me and reported the incident. The conversation ended on a sour note with him accusing me of being more on the side of the law.

I went searching for my father's book. It used to be kept in a special hiding place somewhere in the House. His book is a valuable source on most of the paranormal activities. Only that, it was not there. I have ripped the house apart (with exceptions of bedrooms – I trust the fellow members) but to no avail.

The room began to blur and swirl. What's going on? Derek thought with alarm. It wasn't long before it cleared, except he had a feeling something was different. Derek looked around the Den and gasped. "No! It can't be you!"

What is a better way to make friends with the people in the castle? Rachel thought. She is in the living room with her daughter while Kat watched television.

"Mom?" Rachel blinked away her thoughts. "Yes, honey?"she asked, noticing that it was commercial break on television and Kat watching her with concern. "Are you okay, Mom?"asked Kat. "You looked like something was bothering you."

"Kat, come over here and sit by me for a minute, please?" asked Rachel. Kat got up from the floor and sat by her mother on the couch. "Have you ever had to find a way to make friends with someone you don't know?"asked Rachel. Kat shook her head. "Thanks."

"But you could try to meet them somewhere."Kat suggested. "It might work."

Rachel brightened up at her daughter's brilliant suggestion. "What a good idea!" exclaimed Rachel. "I wonder why I haven't thought of that."

Without saying a word, Kat returned to her original position on the floor. "Kat?" Kat  turned to look at Rachel. "How about after this, we go and visit people living in that castle I told you about?" Rachel suggested.

     Kat grinned and said, "Okay."

"We'll be having guests from The Legacy in about thirty minutes." Kathleen said suddenly.

"By that time, Salome, Justis, and I would be doing some shopping." replied Peter.

"I would be in my bedroom, studying." said Dara.

"I know most of you will be busy." Kathleen replied. "Metis and I will be here to greet them."

I wonder how Derek is doing? Kathleen thought, several minutes later when Peter
kissed her good bye. I pray he is all right.

"It is us." Alicia Summers said. "We are here for a reason."

"What's that?" Derek wanted to know.

"The Legacy." Winston Rayne said. "We didn't actually die at the times of our deaths."

"But I was there, Dad, when you died." Derek protested. "And, Alicia, you were torn apart!"

"Our bodies died," Alicia pointed out, "not souls."

"Our souls were badly wounded by the demons. Actually, dying was more like it."said Winston. "It was The Legacy who took us under her wings. I am now healed."

"...but I am not yet healed,"said Alicia.

     "Why?" Derek blurted out.

"I died years after Winston died," Alicia explained, "and Randolph's thirst for revenge kept   opening my wounds."

"We are not here to talk about our souls,"said Winston,. "but of The Legacy."

"I'm going to be having a hard time believing The Legacy is a human being," Derek replied.

"It is true," said Alicia. "Even if we don't know the name of the person The Legacy is in now. But she is covering herself really well within the group at the castle."

"With your ability, you will find The Legacy," said Winston. "Unless The Legacy is forced to reveal who she is in the battle with the evil."

"Extremely evil beings like Satan,."added Alicia.

"Son, we know you are looking for my book." Winston said. "Do not worry. It is safely in the hands of The Legacy."

Derek was not sure in how he would react to all of this. "I'm relieved to hear your book is safe, Dad." Derek finally replied.

"Good." Winston gave a small smile.

"That is all we can say," said Alicia. "We must go."

"Wait!" Derek cried out. But the spirits have vanished into thin air, leaving Derek all alone in the Den.

"I hope I'm doing the right thing." muttered Peter as he slided into the driver's seat.

"What are you talking about?" Salome wanted to know.

"Leaving Kathleen at the house," replied Peter. "Something bad could happen to her."

"It's not that," said Justis. "Spit it out. What's wrong?"

Peter sighed as he drove to the ferry dock. "I have a vision last night of Dr.Rayne and Kathleen. They fell in love and got married," he said. "They would have children."

"You're just being paranoid," said Justis. "As far as what you have told me, Dr.Rayne and      Kathleen have only met twice."

"No one is immune to love at first sight," snapped Peter.

"I agree with Peter," replied Salome. "But I don't see any love in Kathleen's face." Oops. she thought as Peter's face turned red. I've really put my foot in the mouth of mine again!

Derek was still sitting in the same chair when Alex came in. "Derek?" she asked after a look at his pale face. "Are you all right?"

He sighed and said, "I'm okay. Have you come up with any information about the castle?"

He's not telling the truth. Derek's not okay and I can sense the fading presence of two spirits. They are not here, they must have left minutes ago. Alex thought as she looked directly at Derek. But if he doesn't want to say anything, that's okay.

"I have checked up with every database I can find," Alex answered. "None."

Derek blinked in surprise. "Have you check up on database regarding The Legacy?"

"I haven't done that."said Alex. "What would the castle have to do with The Legacy?"

But the only thing he said was, "I'll need you to do this."

"Mommy, let's go," said Kat as she got up from the floor.

Rachel looked at her in surprise and then to television. The cartoon was barely over, yet Kat was practically jumping. "Okay, then."said Rachel. "Let's go."

Kat ran toward the hall closet and Nick, who was on his way to the Computer Room, almost tripped over her.

"Whoa!" said Nick. "I didn't see you there. What's your hurry, kiddo?"

"Mommy and I will be visiting the castle," answered Kat while she opened the closet.

"Rachel," said Nick, not liking the idea of Rachel and Kat going to that castle, "how about I join you?"

Kat looked so hopeful that Rachel hated to see it dashed. "No, thank you," said Rachel. "The way you were going, you must be needed by Alex or Derek."

"Alex," said Nick with a sigh. "I'm needed in the Computer Room."

"Have fun," Rachel replied cheerfully. "And good luck."

"Thanks."said Nick with a small smile. He held the door opened for them until they left before closing it. Nick turned around to continue on his way to the Computer Room.

Alex looked up from a computer monitor when he entered. "Nick, I'll need your help in finding any information on The Legacy," she said.

"What's so hard in that?"asked Nick. At the sight of Alex's surprised face, he explained Rachel and Kat visiting the Castle.

"Don't worry. Rachel and Kat are fighters,"said Alex. "And what Derek asked for, in that case, it's rather specific. Derek told me to look up any information on The Legacy but I got a feeling it's something else."

"How about you do what you're doing right now and I will do the others?" suggested Nick.

"Okay," Alex answered. "I'm doing `groups'. You can do `living beings'."

"Living Beings?" Nick said with surprise. "Well, no problem."

Derek was in the front of one of the bookshelves in the Library when the doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" he shouted.

He put the photograph album away and went to the front door. Despite Derek's shout, Nick was at the front door by the time he got there.

Nick opened the front door and saw no one… until he looked down and saw an unmarked  brown package. It wasn't very big – maybe around the same size as the computer monitors. The flaps were not taped down and there was nothing to show that it is dangerous. Even so, Nick approaches the package cautiously and opened the flaps. "Just some papers and a book."said Nick. "But the book could have a bomb in it."

Carefully, Nick lifted the box and went into the house. He placed it on the table in the Den and lifted the book out. Nick flipped through it and found nothing threatening in it.

"It's okay," he finally said, moving away from the package.

Derek picked up the book and took a real good look at it. The cover is all black, with the    symbol of The Legacy in red and borders, gold.

     "It's beautiful," Alex said, softly.

Derek fingered the cover before he turned it over. "The Legacy," he read out loudly.

"At least," said Alex, "we have something on The Legacy."

"There's a drawing," said Nick as he took a paper out of the box and looked at it. The expression on his face turned puzzle. "Hey, Derek. Someone wrote `the sixth sepulcher' on the top."

"There is no sixth sepulcher," said Derek as he put down the book and took the paper.

The sixth sepulcher is not identical to the first five. It has an imprint of a human hand and a circle around it on the top. The keyhole is right in the middle of the symbol of The Legacy. Other than that – nothing. No engravings of a written language, nor art designs.

"The sixth sepulcher might have something to do with the five sepulchers," Derek suddenly remarked.

"What do you mean?" asked Nick. "The sixth..."

"I'm sorry for interrupting," said Alex. "But I'm getting confused on all these sepulchers. How about calling the five sepulchers `Rayne Sepulchers' and sixth `Handprint'?"

Nick and Derek stared at Alex in surprise. She had never interrupted a conversation before and her face was white.

"Are you okay, Alex?" asked Derek. "You're as white as a sheet!"

"I'm all right," said Alex. "I stayed up a little late last night. Nothing to worry about."

     "You sure?" Nick asked.

     "Positive," answered Alex.

"The sixt—I mean, Handprint is not identical to the Rayne Sepulchers." Nick said. "So how can that be possible?"

"Appearances aren't everything." Derek pointed out. He was about to say something when the doorbell rang.

"No, I'll get it this time," said Alex.

Nick hesitated for a few moments before nodding. Alex went into the lobby and opened the door. At the sight of a man standing there, her jaws hit the floor.

     "Philip!"
