"Come in." Derek called out.
It was Nick. "Can I come in?" he asked.
Derek shrugged. "Sure."
"I'm wondering if is there something you would like me to do?" asked Nick.
Derek was surprised but happy. "There is," he said, grinning. "I would like you to find information on Kathleen Gorman."
"Kathleen Gorman?" said Nick. "Sure. But why?"
"Let's just say that I have a reason to believe she may have a strong gift," replied Derek.
"O.K., no problem," Nick was about to turn around and leave the room when Derek called out.
"Could you stay here for a minute. I would like to talk to you about a certain matter," replied Derek. When Nick nodded, he continued. "Great! Please close the door."
Nick did and he looked at Derek with a puzzled
look on his face. Derek sighed. "I have an
emotional feeling about Kathleen."
"Emotional?" echoed Nick. Then an idea hit him. "You mean, you are in love with her." Nick said, grinning.
Derek looked uncomfortable. "Yes, you might say that," said Derek.
"You're not comfortable with the feeling, aren't you?" Nick said.
"Nick!" exclaimed Derek. "Kathleen is twenty years my junior. It is not appropriate!"
"Come on off, Derek!" said Nick. "You had an affair with Mei-Ling and she was 22."
"That was different!" protested Derek.
"How was that different?" asked Nick. "You were in love with Mei-Ling and she is two years older than Kathleen. The fact is there, no one is too old for each other to be in love with!"
"She might find me unattractive," muttered Derek.
"Unattractive?" Nick gave out a laugh. "I'm jealous of you because you are still handsome at your age. Kathleen must be nuts not to find you attractive. Tell you what, Kathleen may be in love with you too!"
Derek nodded. The idea had not appealed to him but what Nick was saying made sense. "You're right, Nick," said Derek. "Thanks."
"No problem," Nick said with a grin. Before he left he added, "I will find information on her. You will have it as soon as possible."
"Thanks," replied Derek. He went back to the window after the door closed behind Nick and looked out at the bay again. However, it was not long before he started to think about Kathleen.
"They must be in the same league as Peter," Dara spoke up.
"Maybe," said Kathleen. "but we will never know now."
"Kathleen," said Salome. "how are you feeling?"
"I'm fine," replied Kathleen. "There was never any relationship between Peter and me."
"You mean, the whole thing was a cover-up?" said Justis.
"Yes," answered Kathleen. "It was necessary. There will be no more questions about our former relationship. The meeting is now adjourned."
"Hey, Kathleen?" Dara asked.
"Yeah?" asked Kathleen.
"What are we going to tell The Legacy when they find out Peter is not here any more?" Dara wanted to know.
"Just tell them Peter has left the island for good," said Kathleen.
"That will be like lying," Justis said.
"It would be better than getting caught before the final plan comes into effect," Kathleen pointed out.
"Can I talk to you?" asked Salome, after the others have left.
"Sure," Kathleen said.
"What is going on?" demanded Salome.
Kathleen was caught off-guard with the question. "What do you mean by that?" asked Kathleen.
"You know what I mean," said Salome. "I have a suspicion that you are having a feeling toward someone living in The Legacy House."
"There is no one in the House that I have feeling toward," Kathleen said, standing up from the table.
"Oh no?" said Salome. "What about that certain handsome man who is twenty years older?"
"You mean Dr.Rayne?" asked Kathleen.
"Derek," corrected Salome. "Yes! I sense love!"
Kathleen was once again caught off-guard. "Yeah, right," said Kathleen. "You must be kidding." Her smile faded when she saw Salome was not kidding. "Yeah, I'm falling in love with Derek," Kathleen confessed. "Who wouldn't? Derek Rayne is an extremely handsome man."
"Why not tell him?" said Salome.
"Tell him?! You must be joking because I am not going to tell Derek I am in love with him," Kathleen said.
"Haven't you consider the possibility Derek might be in love with you?" asked Salome.
"Nope," said Kathleen. She left the room, leaving Salome alone.
Oh my God. thought Derek. He had been standing at the window for only a few seconds before he suddenly found himself in the same room as Kathleen and the girl named Salome. They did not see him, standing only a few feet away. Salome was confronting Kathleen about her feelings about Derek. It was then he knew Kathleen is in love with him. Kathleen's in love with me? My soulmate! Whoa! Where did he get that from?
I must arrange for an emergency meeting. Derek thought as he walked out of his bedroom. I have a feeling things are going to get much more confusing soon!
Alex was sitting at the table, going through things in the package. Among them, she spotted a black and white picture. Curious, Alex picked the picture up and saw two young girls with arms around each other. She flipped the picture over and what was written on the back said, Sheryl Gallagher and Alicia Summers.
"Find anything of interest, Alex?" Derek walked into the Den.
"Yes," said Alex as she handed him the picture. "Do you know Sheryl Gallagher?"
Derek frowned. "No, I don't," he said. "Alicia had never mentioned a Sheryl Gallagher to me nor to Hitchcock. But once again, she could have only told Hitchcock." He abruptly changed the subject. "Have you seen Nick, Philip or Rachel?"
"I think Nick and Philip are in the Computer Room," replied Alex. "Rachel is with Kat in the living room. Why?"
Derek was already walking over to the intercom. "There will be an emergency meeting."
"Do you think that Joan of Arc could have been The Legacy in disguise?" asked Nick.
"It could be," said Philip, thoughtfully. "Then how come she got caught and ended up burned at stake?"
"It could have been the plan," said Nick.
Philip was about to say something when the intercom buzzed. Nick went over to the intercom and pressed the button. "Nick." he said.
"Is Philip there?" Derek asked.
"Yeah," Nick answered.
"Come to the den," replied Derek. "There will be an emergency meeting."
Nick wanted to ask the reason for it but Derek buzzed off before he could say a word. "What do Derek wanted?" asked Philip.
"He wants us to go to the Den," Nick said. "There will be an emergency meeting."
"I wonder what it's for?" Philip said as he stood up from the monitor.
"Rachel, we are having an emergency meeting," said Derek. "It will be in the Den."
"O.K." said Rachel. She turned to Kat. "Can
you manage just fine now?" Kat nodded and
Rachel left the room.
Nick and Philip were already there by the time Rachel arrived. She noticed that the contents of the package were scattered over the table. Derek is sitting at his usual seat and Alex her usual. Rachel also noticed Derek was holding a picture.
"Here is a picture I would like you to look at," said Derek. Handing the picture to Alex. Alex passed it on to Nick, who passed it on to Philip and finally he passed it on to Rachel.
"Sheryl Gallagher," Rachel read out loudly. "Who was she?"
"Unknown," Derek said. "Alicia said nothing of this girl to me and probably not to Hitchcock."
"You think Sheryl Gallagher was The Legacy in disguise?" asked Rachel.
"Yes, it is possible." said Derek. "There are two reasons for the emergency meeting – the contents of the package and Kathleen Gorman and her friends. What the first thing we should discuss is the contents of the package. It may or may not contains valuable information on The Legacy, the human being, not the group."
"I am still having trouble getting adjusted to the fact there is 'The Legacy, the human being,' out there," said Nick.
"We all have trouble," Alex said. "The Legacy has many abilities.. to change shapes, to predict... Here is the painting of The Legacy before she died on Titanic."
"Titanic?" asked Derek.
"The Legacy was in first class," explained Alex. "She was in the lifeboat when it flipped out. They could not find her, it was too dark. I have no idea what she was next but during 1950s, she came into life as Sheryl Gallagher, I mean, Sheryl must have been The Legacy in disguise."
"I agreed," said Derek. "But how come Alicia never mentioned Sheryl to me?"
"It is quite possible that Alicia knew Sheryl was The Legacy in disguise and decided not to tell you to stop you from finding out about this. You were not really getting along with your father," Nick said.
Derek nodded. "I have found this along the contents in the package."
Alex continued. "This is the first class ticket to Titanic." She held up the yellowed paper.
"Alex, are you getting anything from the ticket?" asked Rachel.
"Yes," said Alex. "The Legacy went on Titanic. She got off the ship before it sunk but then the lifeboat flipped, throwing her and the others into water. They managed to get back on. Unfortunately The Legacy caught pneumonia and died two weeks later in New York."
"I don't believe it," said Nick.
"I don't believe it either," said Alex. "As far as I know, The Legacy is the only one who caught pneumonia and died from it."
"That means The Legacy could be someone else
between 1912 and 1950," Derek replied,
folding his hands. "But who?"
"Certainly not Winston Rayne or Alicia Summers," said Nick. "The Legacy was Sheryl Gallagher at that time."
"But we don't know when Sheryl Gallagher died because if The Legacy is over there at the castle.." Philip let the sentence drifted off.
"We get the idea," said Alex.
"The big question is," Nick said. "who is The Legacy now?"
"The Legacy is a spirit," Alex pointed out,
"so we should all be asking, whose body is The
Legacy in now?"
Back at the castle, Kathleen is sitting on the window seat in the library, reading a novel. Suddenly, she dropped it. The Legacy will find out whose body The Legacy is in. Kathleen thought. We must do something fast! So she walked over to the computer desk and pressed the intercom. Within two minutes, the whole group was here.
"This is an emergency meeting." Kathleen said. "Within two days, The Legacy, the group, will find out whose body The Legacy is in. So we better find a way to slow them down.. fast!"
