He looked at the clock when he sat down. 1:06AM, the clock said.
December 19, 1996
Alicia visited me recently. She was crying, asking why Kathleen would try to leave. I am puzzled for two reasons -- why did Kathleen tried to leave and why is Alicia crying over Kathleen's attempt? Perhaps she knows who The Legacy is but perhaps she doesn't.
The time of finding out who The Legacy is is coming closer. Not only that but the death of Kathleen Gorman. IT makes me wonder if The Legacy and Kathleen are the same person.
Derek sighed and looked at the clock. No! he thought in disbelief. It was 6:35AM. Derek got up from the desk and went to the window. The sun was nearly up.
Derek quickly got dressed and went downstairs. No one is up. Derek thought. I thought Alex would be up.
Derek went into the library, where from there, into the computer lab. He turned on the computer and started up a program on Handprint Sepulcher. It was sitting on the table, ready to be examined.
Derek was studying it when something gave him a jolt. It looks familiar but in what way?
Alex opened her eyes to the sound of her alarm clock ringing. She would love to go back to sleep but it was 6:30AM and The Legacy assignment was not going to wait around her.
It wasn't long before she got dressed and on her way downstairs. Alex decided to hold off breakfast and work on the assignment.
Alex was not expecting anyone to be up so she was surprised to see Derek.
"Are you feeling alright?" asked Alex.
It was Derek's turn to be surprised. "I'm fine." said Derek. "Why?"
"I have never seen you up this early before." replied Alex.
"There is always a first time." Derek said with a wry smile.
Alex agreed. "What are you doing?" asked Alex.
"I'm looking at Handprint Sepulcher." answered Derek. "There is something familiar about it."
"What's that?" Alex wanted to know.
"I have no idea." Derek said as he continued to look at the sepulcher.
"I wonder if the palm print means anything." said Alex.
Derek looked a little closer at Handprint Sepulcher. "I think I know why it looks familiar to me." he suddenly said.
"What is it?" asked Alex.
"It belongs to one person," said Derek. "and her name is The Legacy."
Alex looked a little closer and realized Derek was right.
"This sepulcher had no keyhole." said Derek. "So how can it be opened?"
"Maybe the palm print is the keyhole." suggested Alex. "Why don't we check over Handprint Sepulcher? It might be a little more valuable than the Rayne Sepulchers."
Derek agreed. "We'll do that." said Derek. "I noticed the palm print is small. From what it looked like, only The Legacy can open it."
"It looked like that to me, too." said Alex. She looked at Derek. "Do you think Kathleen's death can be prevented?"
"I don't know." said Derek.
Alex suspected Derek was not telling the truth but said nothing.
Derek knew already that Kathleen's death might not be prevented but he didn't want to say it, just not yet.
Alex can see Derek is madly in love with Kathleen. It's time for Derek to have a girlfriend. Alex thought with a smile.
Derek is aching for Kathleen. He could not bear losing Kathleen. Is there any way I can prevent her death? Derek thought. He felt as his heart was being ripped out.
"Are you OK?" asked Kathleen.
"I'm fine now." Dara replied as she looked at Kathleen.
"What happened, Dara?" asked Salome.
"The missing hours -- it is a warning to two people." said Dara. "Kathleen Gorman and Derek Rayne."
"A warning of what?" asked Kathleen.
A warning of terrible events to come." said Dara.
"What terrible events?" asked Salome.
"I don't know." said Dara. "But I do know this -- someone will die but another will live."
"Dara, get some rest, OK?" said Kathleen. Dara nodded and Kathleen left the living room, going to the office.
"What will happen?" Salome asked the second they were in the office.
"The Legacy is coming very soon." replied Kathleen. "Very soon."
Salome sighed. "I'll be in the basement." said Salome.
"OK, Salome." said Kathleen. She watched Salome left the office and turned her attention to the garden outside her office. Kathleen went over to her desk and sat down. She took out a second diary, and a pen and began to write.
December 19,1996
I'm going to die. I have already accepted it but I saw no one else doing it. I has this feeling I will die tonight.
Kathleen looked out of the window. She was afraid, not for herself but the others. It was when the vision happened....
Kathleen was with everyone in The Legacy House. Everyone was talking and smiling. The happy mood didn't last. The front door exploded and men with guns came in. Kathleen felt the terror and rage in the room. Hitchcock and Peter came in and they both have funs. Kathleen realized, with shock, she can read their thoughts. Peter planned to kidnap Kathleen while Hitchcock planned on killing Derek. Hitchcock turned around, pointed the gun at Derek and started firing. "NOOOO!!!" Kathleen screamed in horror as the bullets hit Derek in full force.
