Chapter Twelve

Derek began to chase Kathleen. It was a miracle the airport, even through it was busy, was not
crowded enough to prevent Derek from running.

Flight to New York is soon departing.. gate 101a.. the loudspeaker blared out.

New York? Derek thought. This is probably where Kathleen is going!

Kathleen was further ahead, not looking back over her shoulder but heading straight for Gate 101a where the airplane is waiting.

"Kathleen!" She could hear Derek yelling, even if the airport was really noisy.

KATHLEEN!!! Out of nowhere, someone screamed. But it didn't slow Kathleen down. Don't do this, PLEASE! But Kathleen is too determined to listen. Then it happened.

Flight to New York will not leave on time due to engine trouble.. the loudspeaker blared out.

Kathleen was at the gate when a hand shot out and grabbed her by her left arm. "Where do you think you are going?" Derek hissed in her ears.

"What are you doing here?" asked Kathleen.

Derek didn't answer. Instead, he yanked her arm. "I'm taking you back to the castle."

"What about my car?" protested Kathleen.

"Don't bother." said Derek. "You were planning on leaving it here anyway."

Kathleen knew enough there was no way she could go to New York. They didn't talk on the way
back to the House.

    "What happened?" asked Salome.

"Kathleen tried to go to New York City." replied Derek.

"Kathleen? Why?" Salome wanted to know.

Kathleen did not answered. Instead, she raised her chin and looked at Derek in the eye. "I'm going back home." said Kathleen.

"No, you are not." replied Derek.

"Yes, I am." Kathleen said. "Why don't you leave me alone?"

Derek and Salome looked shocked. "Kathleen!" Salome said.

"If I am not The Legacy, then what am I doing here?" said Kathleen.

"Hold on," Derek replied, "how do you know you are not The Legacy?"

"I just know." that was all Kathleen said before walking up to the front door and going out. When she did get out, a strange smile spread across her face. The final plan is just beginning.

After Kathleen left, Derek turned to Salome. "What's going on?" he wanted to know.

"I was the one who told her that." said Salome. "But I didn't know she would take it so personally."

"She didn't." replied Derek. "She has something else on her mind but what?"

    Salome could only shrugged.

Derek's eyes snapped open. It was midnight, he could see that by his clock. What woke him up? He saw the white figure at his foot. "Alicia." whispered Derek.

"Derek." said Alicia. "Oh, Derek." Tears began to fall from her eyes.

    "What's wrong?" asked Derek.

"Kathleen. I kept wondering why she wanted to leave." Alicia cried. "She is keeping something from you, something of certain valuable, something to do with the discovery of The Legacy."

"What kind of valuable information?" Derek wanted to know.

"I don't know." whimpered Alicia. "All I know is Kathleen is keeping something very important. You must find out, Derek. Please!"

Before Derek could say anything, she faded away. What valuable information?? he thought.

Kathleen couldn't sleep. All she could think of is what happened between her and Derek. Salome.. Dara…Metis?? She called out.

    I'm awake. Dara said.

Dara? What are you doing up? asked Kathleen. Dara is usually the first person to go to bed.

I couldn't sleep. answered Dara. I don't know why but I just could not sleep.

    Me, too. said Kathleen.

I bet this is because of what happened tonight. replied Dara.

Partly, yes. Kathleen confessed. I just have to run.

To New York City? asked Dara.

Yeah, said Kathleen. to NYC. I still wonder what made Derek came after me.

    Could be love. Dara said.

    Dara.. groaned Kathleen. Don't start.

    Me, start anything? asked Dara.

    Yes, YOU! said Kathleen.

Dara yawned. I'm getting quite sleepy. said Dara.

Okay, good night, Dara. said Kathleen.

Good night. The silence followed and Kathleen sighed. She looked over to the clock on her bedside table. 2:15 AM it said.

The next thing she knew, it said 6:35 AM. Kathleen blinked in surprise. 6:35 AM it kept saying. She didn't want to believe it so she walked over to the window and pulled open the curtains. Kathleen's jaws dropped open at the sight. The sun is just rising. What is going on? she thought. What happened to the four hours? She got out of the bed and quickly got dressed. Salome was in the kitchen, making breakfast when Kathleen came downstairs. "Good morning." said Salome. She looked at Kathleen and added, "What's wrong?"

"The time!" said Kathleen. "How can four hours go by so fast?" Then it stuck her. "Something is
happening, Salome. Something bad. Something out of pure evil."

    "You're being dramatic." said Salome.

"I'm not." protested Kathleen. "Something to do with Hitchcock and Peter."

Dara was just entering the kitchen when she overheard Kathleen. Her face went white. "Kathleen." she whispered. "I have a feeling you're right." It was then she fainted.
