Metis woke up to a strange room in the morning. She got dressed and went downstairs.
Her dad noticed her and said to a strange old woman. “Hi, mom, this is my daughter, Metis.”
The woman turned to her. She looked at Metis carefully. “She got the gift.” She said.
“Mom!” her dad said, nervously.
“Grandmother have a surprise for you.” said her mom.
“Yes, it’s on my bed.” Her grandmother replied.
Metis’ face brightened up. She loved surprises! Metis raced up the stairs but stopped at the head. Something about the hall scared her. It was then she heard the most beautiful song. It seemed to be from a guest bedroom. Metis moved toward the voice like someone under trance. She placed her hands on the doorknob and turned. The song abruptly stopped but Metis continued. She went into the room and saw a lady by the window. Her back was to Metis. The lady sobbed.
“What’s wrong, ma’am?” asked Metis.
The lady jumped. “Nothing is wrong.” she said.
“If nothing is wrong, then why are you crying?” asked Metis.
“I’m sad, that’s why.” said the lady.
“Can I ask why?” asked Metis.
“My, you certainly asked a lot of questions.” said the lady. “I feel so unappreciated. People here only cared about appearances, not talent.”
“I think that’s dumb.” replied Metis.
The lady sniffed. “Then I hope this won’t change your opinion then.” She turned around.
Metis gasped in terror. The lady’s face had no flesh on them. Metis looked right at the grinning skullface. But it was not a normal skull. The front of the skull was ripped and there was a hole in the right side. Metis opened her mouth to scream but a strong hand cupped over. She found herself dragged out of the room.
“You do have a gift.” said her grandmother. “You just have to learn how to use it properly.”
Metis blinked… and found herself in the basement with her friends. She had just concluded there was a connection between The Castle of Tragedies and Legacy.
“What do you mean?” asked Justis.
But she can’t explain. If only Metis could would it be easier. “I can’t explain.” said Metis. “I just can’t.”
Justis nodded in understanding. Metis felt relieved when she saw the others nodded. They continued down the hall but only one can heard the cries of the haunted. They came upon the door. It was wooden and had a metal ring as a doorknob.
Salome pulled the door opened and they peeked in.
“What the hell?” Justis breathed.
When Alex stepped into the bedroom, she gasped. She heard the child’s laughter and watched as a child ran around the room with his toys. Then suddenly, he was in bed. The child moaned in pain and his forehead dotted with sweat. He closed his eyes and was still. A scream of a mother ripped through the air and Alex’s soul. “Benjamin! Benjamin!”
Alex saw a group of people around the bed. Some wept and others looked sad. They placed flowers on the freshly made bed and slowly faded away. Alex heard something being dropped and looked down. On the floor was a little vital. She picked it up and sniffed. Poison! Someone whispered to her. The child was poisoned.
“What are you holding?” asked Nick.
Alex blinked. The vital she held a moment ago vanished. “The child in this bedroom was murdered.” she said. “Someone poisoned him.”
“Why would anyone poisoned a child?” asked Philip.
Revenge. Someone whispered in Alex’s ear.
“Revenge.” replied Alex.
“And how would you happen to know all of this?” asked Dara.
There was no whisper. “Someone was whispering them to me.” said Alex.
“Who?” asked Philip.
“I have no idea, Philip.” sighed Alex. “None.”
