Part Three

Chapter Six

The tragedy finally happens.  LaCroix called the next day to announce Nicolas Knight's death.

Kalaya is in denial.  Derek can see it and it concerns him greatly so he told her to take a week off.

Kalaya drove around in San Francisco doing some shopping and things but she did not once believed the man she once loved and saw him through two different phases is dead.

When the week is over, Kalaya returned and everyone was relieved to see her returned to normal.

One night, Kalaya woke up, sobbing.  She doesn't know why as she wiped the tears from her eyes.

She sighed and pushed the covers away.

"Kalaya." someone whispered.

Kalaya spinned around.  "Who's there?" she called out.

"Nick." said someone.

"Show yourself." she called out.

There were silence.  Then the ghost of Nick K. showed himself and she fainted.

When she comes to it was daylight.

She got up and got dressed.  Kalaya pushed Nick to back of her mind and got to work.

She woke up to thumpings at night and got out of the bed hurrily.  Kalaya looked around the bedroom.   Nick B. came in.  "Where's that thumpings coming from?" asked Nick B.

"I don't know." said Kalaya.

"It is me." said Nick K.  "I'm here and I need your help."

Chapter Seven

"I need your help in crossing over." said Nick K.  "Without your help, I'm doomed to stay on Earth forever until the Judgement Day."

"Take it easy." said Kalaya.  "We'll see what we can do about it."

"Should we wake up the others?" whispered Nick B.

"Should we?" asked Kalaya.  "Perhaps we can do the duty ourselves and not bother the others."

"I can hear you whispering." said Nick B.  "Just don't take too long."  He faded away.

"We'll talk about that in the morning, Okay?" said Kalaya.

Nick B. nodded and went back to his bedroom.

They assembled in the morning and discussed how to bring Nick K. over.

"Nick has to accept the fact he's dead and perhaps it could help him to cross over." suggested Alex.

"It could work." said Derek.

When Nick K. visited, Kalaya relayed the idea to him and he said, "I've accepted the fact I'm dead and it doesn't help any further.  The victims of my past must forgive me before I can cross over."

Kalaya fumed.  "You didn't tell us the night before." said Kalaya.

"I'm sorry." said Nick K.

"We can't force the victims to forgive you.  It's gonna be hard." said Kalaya.

"I know." said Nick K.  "I got to go.  I won't return."

"Why not?" asked Kalaya.

"I got a mission to do."  said Nick K.

"What mission?" Kalaya wanted to know.

"I'm sorry." Nick vanished before Kalaya could say anything and deep inside Kalaya knew it would be the last time she sees him.

Note: the case is still open but no sign of Nick Knight.  Perhaps, in his mission, he had found something that would give him peace..at last.
