Betrayed

Janelle slowly wakes up from her first restful sleep in  a long time.  Memories of her past relationship still occasionally haunt her thoughts.  She glances at the calendar.
Three months?!  He's only been gone three months?
Smelling food being prepared, she starts toward the kitchen.
"John, what are you doing?" she asks upon entering.
"Making you breakfast, silly," he says, then kisses her on the cheek.
She sits down at the table and looks at the lavish breakfast John had prepared.  Strawberries, cantaloupe, kiwi, pancakes, toast, bacon, juice, milk, and syrup.
"You don't expect me to eat all of this, do you?  I'm getting full just looking at it."
"Actually, some of it's for me," John replies, glancing at her from the stove.  "Hot chocolate?"
"Please," Janelle says as she starts serving herself.
John walks over to the table with two cups of hot chocolate.  "Hey, how did you sleep last night?"
    "Better than usual.  Why?"
"Because, you brought JaMa to breakfast," he replies while taking Janelle's teddy bear from her lap.
"I didn't even notice I still had hold of him."  Janelle blushes slightly as she takes back her bear.
As they finish breakfast, the phone rings.  Janelle reaches over and answers it.
    "Hello?"
"Hey, beautiful!  Happy Birthday," the voice replies.
Janelle sits motionless clutching JaMa and staring at John.
"Beautiful are you there?" queries the voice.
She quickly regains her composure and quietly, but firmly, says, "I'm sorry, sir.  You must have the wrong number."
"But Janelle---" she hears him say as she slams the receiver.
John looks at her not sure what to say.  He's sure he knows who called and wishes he could do something---anything.
    The phone rings again.
"Let me get it," he says, reaching across the table.
    "OK," Janelle replies meekly.
"Hello. ... Hey man, get the guys and come over. ... Yeah, he called again and she needs company. ... Cool see you in a few.  Bye."  John hangs up the phone.  "That was Adam.  He's gonna round up the guys and come over.  Why don't you take a shower before they get here.  Maybe it'll calm you down."
    "OK."
Janelle starts up the shower.  As the steam fills the room, she steps in.  The water from the shower runs down her face, hiding the tears starting to stream from her eyes.  Memories, tired of being ignored, explode to the surface...
Suddenly Janelle was back on the dance floor of Zodiac...

She had gone out with a group of friends, but, as it got further into the night, one by one they all left.  She stayed at the club until it closed.  Every Friday, Janelle was  the last to leave Zodiac ever since new band started playing.
'Tonight,' she thought.  'Tonight, I'm gonna meet the band.  I've put it off way too long.'
The music ended and the lead singer, dripping with sweat from an active set, looked out over the audience, smiled and said, "Hey, everyone.  Tonight's been great.  For all you new people--and I see a few--I'm John.  On guitar is Adam, bass is Jason, on the keys is Michael, and the Master of the Skins is Paul.  We are Kismet and we will be back in five."
"Unless we find some hot babes tonight," Paul adds, almost too quiet for the mic to pick up.
Some of the girls in the crowd squeal and giggle while all of the guys groan.
