Searching for an archetype
The
following info was taken from the book of Practical Solitary Magic
by: Nancy B. Watson
There
seems to be so much focus on choosing an archetype but most do not
know what to do with their archetype once the have chosen it or even how to
go about to choose one. That is what has prompted this and the following
posts on the spiritual plane the archetypes.
Spiritual plane work adds depth and permanence to your magickal operations.
Although it is possible to perform magic without any assistance from the
spiritual plane, the results obtained from such operations are likely to be
temporary,. Initially successful results may mysteriously vanish, as if they
had never existed at all.
There are 3 basic types of magickal techniques appropriate to
the
spiritual plane:
1. Prayer, with which most everyone is familiar;
2. "Assuming the god-form," an advanced spiritual plane technique not
as
well known as prayer; and
3. "building the magickal personality," which just barely qualifies as
a
spiritual plane procedure.
It may surprise you to see prayer listed as a magickal technique, but in
fact it is a practical one. Murry Hope maintains that all prayers are heard,
and I agree with her. The question is: who or what hears the prayers?
The answer to this question lies entirely with the
individual. Spiritual
plane matters are private and intensely personal. No person, system, or
institution has the right to dictate how an individual should conduct his
spiritual life, and I shall not intrude in this area.
What I propose to do is to advise you on how to effectively
approach the
various archetypes which exist on the spiritual plane. I shall also indicate
how to choose the Western archetype most appropriate to the goal you wish to
achieve. But the ultimate choice of archetype, and the method of approaching
it, is entirely up to you.
The following 2 exercises are reproduced from Murry Hope's Ancient Egypt:
The Sirus Connection.
Personal Symbol Exercise
Lie down or seat yourself comfortably, close your eyes, and take an
imaginary journey backwards in linear time to the moment of your birth.
Some people I have spoken to tell me that they have visualized this rather
like playing a film backwards, so that the end progresses towards the
beginning.
Visualize yourself poised to ensoul the embryo that is to
become your
present self, and enter the womb at the point of your actual conception.
Pause for one moment to "feel" the energies surrounding you and become
aware
of the silver cord which connects the spiritual "you" to it's
physical
counterpart. Then slowly start to move forward in time, passing through your
embryonic growth and the drama of your birth. Take hold of the sliver cord
and pull it along with you as you proceed forward towards the present.
As you pass through the experiences of your childhood, pause here and there to
register a particularly important or traumatic experiences of childhood,
pause here and thereto register a particularly important or traumatic
experience or meaningful event, great happiness, pain, or new awareness,
and record each incident by making a knot in your silver cord. Continue your
mental travels through your teenage years forward to whichever part of your
life you have now reached, but always imbibing the sensations of each
significant episode and knotting your cord accordingly.
You will finally arrive in the present, trailing your knotted
silver
cord. Here is what you do next: take the conception end and join it to the
point which represents the present, thus creating a circle after the style
of the Ouroborus, the serpent eating it's own tail. This circle will
represent the sum total of your inner and outer time experiences as related
to the "now." Continuing to employ your creative imagination, lay the
circle
down flat and step into the center. You will immediately find yourself
sinking fearlessly through a gentle darkness, to eventually touch down in
what can only be described as the primordial womb.
This experience will vary with each individual. Keep relaxed,
breathe
slowly and deeply, and you will find yourself automatically rising, but the
way you rise will again be unique to you. the first thing you see when you
reach the top will be your own personal symbol.
Having found your own personal symbol, always keep it in mind for safety; it
will link you to the energies of your group soul, as well as identify you
once you are outside the wavelengths of the terrestrial frequencies.
Visualize is when going to sleep, when frightened or tired, or when
affecting any form of time travel or alter state of consciousness.
The
next symbol you need to know is your God / Goddess symbol, Which
constitutes additional protection since it represents your own personal link
with the infinite - the Center Point of the Universe - call it God, the
Goddess, the Ultimate, or whatever.
Having fully familiarized yourself with your personal symbol,
relax to a
meditative posture and visualize it as strongly as you are able. Then
amplify the symbol in your mind's eye until it becomes large enough to
create a seat for you to mount or relax into.
Once you feel comfy and absolutely secure in your hold,
proceed as
follows: Start to rotate your symbol clockwise, slowly at first but
increasing speed as you spin. Close your psychic eye so that you do not feel
dizzy. You may find that you need to give the whole process a little
encouraging push to start with, although some people who have tried this
have gained momentum with a minimum mental effort. This time taken is of
course no consequence, and will vary with the individual. For a moment or 2
you will spin and then you will slow down, come to a halt, and somewhere in
outer time. Using your mind's eye, look around: the first thing you see will
be an archetype appropriate to you who will greet you or give you some point
of reference. In your terms of reference, it could be a god or a goddess, a
maternal or a paternal figure, a personality associated with the particular
religious faith which has influenced your terrestrial programming, or a
cosmic being. But whomever you see will represent the other half of your
natural spiritual polarity.
Once established, personal and god/goddess symbols should be
used when
undertaking any form of psychic or occult work, time travel, or meditation.
These are your security codes which will ensure you safe passage through the
unfamiliar territories of altered states of consciousness. under no
circumstances should (altered states of consciousness) be practiced when
under the influence of drugs of any kind, medicinal or otherwise, alcohol,
or any other stimulant likely to effect a distortion of the left-brain
logic. Such chemicals, being unnatural to the human body, create vortices of
negative energy which are easily identifiable by aliens.
Therefore, in
addition to distorted messages, "bad trips" and the unlikelihood of
attracting benign energies, the probability of a personal fragmentation
resulting in severe mental illness is certainly on the cards.
