Yes, a Ford Ranger...it has potential to be the most ultimate prerunner(2wd offroad racer)
for not very much $$$ at all. Ok, here's the plan:
- Buy a running 82-95 Ranger for less than $1k(much less if possible), engine doesn't
matter...gears can fix torque problem.
- Get 2wd lift (about $300-$1000)
- Put Lift on truck
- Throw away bed(or shorten to make a toolbox) to clear room for tires
- Put the largest tires reccomended to fit with said lift on the
front(ie. factory: 28", after 4" lift: 31"), this means that the front would be
about 5-5.5" higher than stock.
- Rather than put the 4" lift blocks in the
back, just put 10" taller tires(38" tall boggers desired) so that it sits level and has
an insane amount of clearance.
- Roll the rear axle from a wrecked explorer under the back(ford 8.8, same as f150). This
should be the same width as the ranger's origional rear axle and mount in the same place,
so no modifications there. Axle already has disk brakes.
- Change to a lower R&P(~$200) and drop in a minispool in the rear diff(~$40).
- Drive to biggest mudhole known.
- Drive out of biggest mudhole known and laugh at the people w/ 4wds that are
looking at the hole with terror and worrying about getting mud in their front differentials
and inside of thier vehicles.(I have met a whole lot of people like this...monster vehicle
wont "use" it)
Items completed:
- Found about 5 in the Indianapolis area for $950 and down.
NOTE: This was not intened to offend anyone. It was intended only to inspire
people who wish to partake in some 2wd offroading. If you build, or have built the
truck of which I speak(and loose sleep at night over), please send pictures to [email protected]. If you have a truck that
you would like to donate to my cause or sell me for about $200, please email the above
