P-51 Mustang

The P-51 mustang were the USA's best fighter from the world war II. It had a high top speed and could outrun most of the enemy aircraft's of its time. The P-51's major role was to escort bombers and it had a very long range with droptanks.



The P-51 were also used in reconnaissance-, fighter-bomber- and interceptions-mission.
At first it was powered by an allison engine but it was replaced by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine.
Against the Luftwaffe fighters the P-51 stacked-up well, it could out turn and climb with the FW-190 and the Me BF-109. The P-51's greatest assets was its range, speed and maneuverability.
