McLaren F1

BMW 48-Valve V-12 ~~ The Legendary 12 cylinder engine

Cars like the McLaren F1 are extraordinary in every aspect. There are only two cars in the world that can match the McLaren's price and performance: The Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR and the Porsche 911 GT1. The F1 is based on the Formula 1 cars that are raced in endurance racing. It has 627 horspower, the most ever offered in a stock car. It has the highest top-speed at 231 mph and it is the fastest car ever; it goes from standstill to 60 mph in only 3.4 seconds!!! It also costs $1,131,120 which is more than any other car on the planet. The engine is a BMW 48-Valve V-12 mounted just before the rear axle. Only 100 of these have been produced at the rate of 3 per month, 20 for racing and 80 for sale. These cars are hand built with the finest quality material in Britain. Only 5 of them are in the U.S. and two of them are owned by the fashion designer Ralph Lauren.

Unlike other exotics, this car is perfectly capable of handling all kinds of roads and weather conditions. It is compact in design and the handling is very precise. The first thing that is unusual about this car is that it has a 1+2 design. The driver sits in the middle and a passanger can sit on either side. It was designed this way to maintain maximum balance. The compact 12-cylinder engine is right behind the driver. It is covered with genuine gold-plated heat foil to keep it from overheating. The cover for the engine bay is also gold-plated to keep the heat level down. Air captured by the roof-mounted scoop passes through the air boxes to the engine. The chassis and the body are all entirely made of carbon-fiber. Carbon-fiber is extremely strong yet very light. The F1 also has a special "servival cell" which will keep you alive in case if you crash at about 200 mph. Under crash tests, the McLaren did very well, even the windshield did not break.

The F1 comes with its own set of titanium tools that are gold-plated and lightweight. Since the goal was to keep the weight down as much as possible, even the 10-Disc CD player is built specially for this car by Kenwood. It's half the normal weight and can handle 1.5g's with ease. These kind of things help limit the F1's weight to only 2840 lbs. Imagine a Corvette that's 400 lbs. lighter and has about 627 horsepower V-12 and this is what you get!
