Honda's 250 MX effort wasn't substantially better than 1983's. Honda put a stunning motor into the bike, but the rest of the machine was not that great for MX, let alone general off-roading.
Power: The Honda 250 engine generated super strong power everywhere in the powerband. It pulled much harder through the power range compared to the '83 model. In a flat out drag, no other '84 250 MX bike could touch it!
Suspension: The '84 CR 250 had harsh forks and a harsh rear shock. (Basically, the suspension was a real kidney destroyer.) The suspension wasn't any better than '83's. It would handle little stuff well.
Handling: The CR was a razor sharp turning bike, but it wasn't stable at high speeds. In fact, it was scary at high speeds!
Reliability: The 1984 Honda CR 250 blew lots of engines! After the initial engine crash, the bike didn't blow up that often, yet often enough to make the owner wonder why they should own the bike. The rear shock hose tended to blow off at very inopportune moments! Why, oh why, Honda did not bag this shock was beyond understanding by most Honda riders. These bikes wore out fast.
Odds & Ends: The '84 CR 250 came with a front disc brake and had very nice detailing. This machine was definitely set up to MX and it won't make a good trail/play bike.
