EGR Theory:

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) The EGR System takes burnt gasses from a cylinder and reroutes it back into the intake system. The theory behind it is that instead of burning new air/gas, you burn already burnt stuff (so, this save a bit of gas and keeps combustion temperatures lower than they would without). Lower combustion temperatures reduce the risk of knock/detonation and reduce NOx polution levels.

The EGR is turned off at full throttle (it has a hose that goes to the intake and from there it measures the presure etc...) so there is no loss of perfomance when it is on EXCEPT for the following:

1. The hot bunt fumes from the engine heat up the intake manifold resulting in loss of power (not much but every little bit counts)

2. The fumes make the intake "dirty".

#1 is the main reason i took mine out. This mod is not streat legal (visual inspection) and it may not pass emmisions (NOx levels). The EGR is the UGLY rusted pipe (and has a round top) close to the Throttle body, just follow the "e" and "r" hosses on top of the TB and they lead to the egr.

HOW TO???

So you decided to remove it but don't know how? This is not an easy task (for some).
Once you remove the egr, you need to block the two holes (one on the intake manifold and the other on the exhaust manifold)

For the intake side, i used a thin plate that i cut to the size of the original gasket that used to be there. then i drilled 2 holes, wrapped it with electric tape and screwed it to the intake with the original screws.

For the exhaust, i cut the pipe in 2 to remove the nut at the bottom. Since the nut has a hole in it, i put a dime on the inside of it :) and i scealed it with exhaust pipe paste and screwed it back on.

So far so good. On my engine i get no detonation or any problems etc...

I also recomment the TB coolant pipe rerouting mod and the PCV mod to keep the intake manifold nice and cold and clean. I don't know how much power this adds but i did notice that my car can pull consistant times at the drags without heating up or slowing down...
