HOW TO INSTALL A OEM MR2 TURBO EXHAUST ON THE NA MR2?

Preface: There are a few differences betwen the exhausts and pipes, i will first describe both systems and later say how to install them.

Some might want to put the OEM TURBO PIPE too, i will also explain how do do this. Now, the good news is both exhausts mount on the same place. The bad news is the pipe lengths are different diameters and lengths.

The Turbo Pipe diameter is 2.5" vs. 2.0" for the NA. Now you have to visualise the following: starting from the Primary catalytic, the turbo catalytic is positioned lower than the NA catalytic. Now following the pipe towards the back of the car, there is a secondary catalytic on the turbo model (and california NA). Now the pipe on the turbo connects to that secondary catalytic while the NA pipe extends a bit longer (+/-6") to the exhaust connection. mean while on the turbo, the catalytic extends beyond the NA connection and then connects to the exhaust connection. Please see diagram bellow:

NA-------------------------}-------------------exhaust

[=========] is the catalytic on the turbo model.

Now the instructions if you just want to install the exhaust. You will notice, as described poorly on the diagram, that once you put the turbo muffler on, it will not reach the pipe. what you have to do is make an extention pipe fromthe 2" pipe to the 2.5" muffler. CAUTION do not wels this extention pipe to the 2" pipe or it will be impossible to remove the whole pipe in the future without cutting it. So what you should do it add a flange on both sides of this extention pipe.

If you have the pipe and exhaust fromthe TURBO (recomended), it will not reach the primary catalytic, so all you need to do is wels an extention pipe to the turbo pipe and put a flange and bolt it to the primary cat with a flange. I recommend you use a 2.5" extention in case you decide to get the RPM hedders (or any other hedder) that have a 2.5" exit too. Aslo you have an extra catalytic that you might want to either keep (incase youu want to have a cat when you put the rpm hedders which remove the primary cat), you can also gut it, or replace it by a 2.5" pipe, with flanges! or you won't be able to remove the pipe in the future.

I hope this helps, and i think it might be a bit confusing, you can always email me for more info :)
