Andy Harris 1996 -

A product of the same Liverpool youth team that produced Michael Owen, Andy joined Ronnie Whelan at SUFC during the 1996 close season. A defender originally playing as full back, he changed to a central midfield role as the 1996/97 progressed. He played 47 times for the club in league + cup, but his tendency to over commit himself was in part the reason he received 8 yellow cards. No player really shined in that relegation season, but Andy can reasonable claim to have given 100%.
1997/98 saw him take over as club captain from Keith Dublin, but another relegation was in prospect. Four outstanding displays at home against Brentford, Fulham, Watford + Wigan between Sep + Nov 97 were followed by more mediocre performances, albeit he continued to appear committed whilst his more senior team-mates sometimes appeared indifferent. An injury meant he only made one appearance as sub after mid-Feb98, although he managed to fit 7 yellow + one red card into his 31 outings in 1997/98.
He seems to be able to get publicly noticed with infrequent articles in the national press + Peter Taylor, in his role as England U21 coach watched him on a number of occasions.
The fans seemed to be unsure + a two year extension to his contract was not universally welcomed.
He should excel in the 3rd, but we will have to wait + see.
I am really looking forward to him scoring as I have heard that his goal celebration is outstanding.
