Halloween is a huge holiday around our house. My husband loves decorating the house up all spooky. A couple of years ago he, and my brother made bodies out of PCP pipes, and dressed them like some of the most popular horror villians. They made a Freddy Kruger, Michael Meyers, Jason Voorhese, and Norman Bates
(as his mother.). They even made the little girl from Poltrogist, complete with long blond wig, and placed her outside on the front lawn with her hands on a box they had turned into a T.V., with a strobe light in it, to make it look like the T.V. was static, and it worked. They placed the other four bodies in front of the windows in our house, that faced the road, and put black plastic behind them, along with a strobe light. They had a grave yard, fog machine, and all sorts of other things. It was really creative, and spooky. We don't decorate like that these days because it scares our daughter. But I'm sure if she is at all like her daddy, which she is, then in a few more
years as she get older, she will be right out there in the yard with him getting the house all spooked up for Halloween, and enjoying every second of it.
History of Halloween
Recipes
Witches Fingers
makes: 5 dozen
1 Egg
1 cup (softened) Butter
1 cup Icing sugar
1 tsp Almond extract
1 tsp Vanilla
2 2/3 cups Flour
1 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp Salt
3/4 cup Almonds, whole blanched
1 Tube red decorator gel
Beat the butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla togeter in a bowl.
Beat in flour, baking soda, and salt. Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes.
Working with one quarter of the dough at a time and keeping rest refrigerated,
roll heaping teaspoonful of dough into finger shape for each cookie. Press
almond firmly into 1 end for nail. Squeeze in centre to create knuckle shape.
Using paring knife, make slashes in several places to form knuckle. Place on
lightly greased cookie sheet, and bake in 325 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or
until lightly golden. Let cool for 3 minutes. Lift up almond, squeeze red
decorator gel onto nail bed and press almond back in place, so gel oozes out
from underneath. Remove from baking sheets and let cool on racks. Repeat with
remaining dough.
Halloween Party Mix
10 cup. popcorn
Reese's Pieces
1 cup candy corn
M&M's, (peanut & plain)
Mix together. Enjoy.
Floating Hand
Freeze water, or punch in a new rubber glove,
and freeze over night. Thaw by running warm
water over the glove. Add the frozen hand to
the a bowl of punch (your choice). Very eerie.
Spooky Sandwiches
Make your favorite type of sandwich
and use Halloween cookie cutters to
cut the sandwiches into spooky shapes
Craft/Ideas
Lollipop ghost
Place tissue paper around the top of a
lollipop, and tie off with a string of
black, or white yarn. Have the kids
draw faces on their ghost with markers.
Face Paint
Mix 1 tbsp of cold cream, 2 tbsp of cornstarch, and
1 tablespoon of water together. Add a couple drops
of food coloring. Apply the paint with a clean Paint
brush. Have fun!
Nylon Witch
Pull a coat hanger into a diamond shape. Pull a pair
of nylons over the coat hanger. Glue on some jiggly eyes
Make a black witches hat out of consrtruction paper, glue
strings of black yarn on either side of the hat for the
hair. Glue the hat to the hanger, and add any other decorations
you wish, and your done.
Foot Print Ghost
(I got this idea from the "Halloween with Barney Video")
This is kind of messy, so use lots of newspapers.Have the
kids stick their foot in some white paint, and then press
their paint covered foot onto a piece of construction paper.
Let the paint dry. Then have the kids turn the foot print upside
down, so that the toes are on the bottom, (the heel of the foot
is the ghost's head). Have the kids draw faces on the ghost with
markers.
