BMW M3

This is the 1999 BMW M3

Overview

-

New for 1999: The M3 enters the 1999 model year primarily unchanged; however, the M3 sedan is no longer available—M3 buyers are limited to the coupe or convertible.

History: The most sporting member of BMW's 3-Series sedan range began as a limited-edition model designed to meet minimum production requirements for touring car racing in Europe and Asia. The M3 arrived in the U.S. in the late '80s but had been available in Europe for several years previously. M3s were initially 2-door coupes with a decided lack of emphasis on creature comfort, but today M3 buyers can choose between luxurious coupe or convertible, equipped to deliver both performance and comfort. Last year, the M3 received standard seat-mounted side airbags to further increase front-seat crash protection.

Trim Details: The 1999 BMW M3 is available in two trims: coupe and convertible. Standard safety equipment includes dual front and side airbags, an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and traction control. The high-powered M3 sports a 3.2-liter DOHC 240-horsepower 6-cylinder engine teamed with a 5-speed manual transmission. The M3 is equipped with a sport suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and 17-inch speed-rated tires, all contributing to its performance level. Other standard features include sport seats, heated power mirrors, leather trim, automatic climate control, a 200-watt AM/FM stereo cassette, power windows and door locks, and cast alloy wheels.
