Another Point of View...

by Tergonaut

This is a conversation aboard a BEM (Bug-Eyed-Monster) ship, just as they achieve Earth orbit in the year 2000. Enjoy!

"So, what is the tactical analysis of the target's battle readiness?"

"Minimal. The fleshlings have not prepared to defend against an assault from the stars."

"Give me a rundown of their social structure, and of their community development."

"It is laughable. None of them believe in exactly the same thing, and most of them are consumed with personal ambition to find their 'true worth' or 'inner peace.' There is unnecessary bloodshed constantly, with fleshlings killing each other, even resorting to murder of their spawn. Their communities are insecure, easily invaded due to lack of forethought at the time of construction. This is a world ripe for conquest."

"Indeed. It is fascinating that a race so vile and disgusting could possible survive long enough to cover their entire planet. Have they detected us yet?"

"Yes, although these are independent sources. Small observatories, satellites, and other isolated sensors have detected our presence, but our ECM has blocked most of their sweeps. Their communications network is so disorganized that it is unlikely that the entire populace will know of our existence in time to prepare for our arrival."

"And what, do you suppose, would be their reaction?"

"Unknown. It is unlikely that the entire planet will be united against us, as they are so fragmented politically, culturally, and mentally that they cannot even agree on repairing the damage they have done to their rich, lush planet. It has been projected that at the most common reaction will be curiosity, although accompanying reactions from cults and religions can make some groups either extremely hostile or incredibly worshipful. It is almost humiliating to attack such a planet that has no sense of self-preservation, no unity."

"Almost. But it will be a mercy for the rest of the universe. So, what will be the overall strategy?"

"We must strike first at the major energy nodes, known in their tongue as 'power plants.' Then, in the confusion caused by the accompanying blackouts, we shall strike. It is projected that any organized and dangerous resistance will form after a seventy-two hour period. They shall not be in time, however, as by that time we shall have been able to create our spawn pools at several key bodies of fresh water. Units should capture as many of the fleshlings alive, as our hatchling warriors will be quite hungry after they have come out of the spawn pools, and they will need the nourishment to assist in taking over the planet. Success is indicated within seven of their days."

"Excellent! The Queen shall be pleased, let her lifeblood flow forever! Are the drop ships ready?"

"Yes, my lord."

"Then proceed with the attack as soon as possible, for the glory of our Queen! The empire of the Queen shall grow in strength with this newest conquest, the conquest of the fleshlings on their precious 'Earth!'"
