Who is iD Software? iD Software is what all game developers in the FPS feild wish to be they have all the publicity they need and have the Gamer God himself John Carmack. Since their beginning they have only made top games. From the old Commander Keen to Wolfenstien (first FPS ever) to Doom (most famous FPS ever) to Doom2 to Quake (first 3D FPS ever) to Quake 2(most online played FPS and most online played game) to Quake 3 Arena (a multi-only game). They have made only famous games and the only game ever to come close to doing better is Valve and their Half-Life.

Wolfenstien was the first FPS ever made. It only had 4 weapons and its graphics weren't very good but it had many episodes. You where restricted to no up/down looking and no jumping/crouching.

Doom/Doom2 screenshot

Doom is probably the most famous of all FPS. It had 7 weapons a wide range of enemies and lots of levels and it was quite a good-looking game of its time.

Quake 1 guy

Quake 1 was the first true 3d FPS. Instead of using old sprites they made the first leap into the world of models. There where 8 weapons and a large but not as large as doom2 variety of enemies. The only con to models is that we will never see about 100 imps teleport into a small room again. Quake 1 is the fastest and one of the most popular multiplayer games.

Quake 2 made a great leap in graphics over no. 1. It looks 100x better and it looked great and yet still ran quite well on a slow CPU. The only con there was no melee weapons only a low powered and unlimited ammo blaster.

Quake 3 Arena is said to be released in November 1999. Q3A will be a multiplayer only game, which will include botbatch. Its graphics have been majority improved. It will be the first FPS to have true curves in the level and model design. There is also a Light/Medium/Heavy Class Character to choose. There are 10 weapons and there is a melee weapon again. This will be the biggest online game for a long time.
