Hi, I'm Christine Chan and I've just completed a degree course in Maths and Computer
Science at UCL. I'm now doing a part-time
Master course in Information Security at
The University of Royal Holloway.
I come from a small town called Harlow, which is very near Cambridge. But I'm actually a Londoner, since I was born in London and only moved to Harlow when I was 8 years old.
I enjoy doing a lot of things, but most of all I enjoy playing on computers, reading and listening to music!!
The books I'm into are mostly horrors, thrillers and mysteries. I also like reading Manga and Anime comics. My favourites are Ranma 1/2, Dragonball Z, DNA2, and Shadowlady, which is by the same people who wrote DNA2!
Here are some pictures from Ranma:
This is Ranma in his female form!
This is Ranma, in his male form, with his girlfriend!
This is Ranma's father...and yes, he is a panda! |
I also like watching Manga and Anime cartoons. I haven't seen many, but the ones I have seen are good!! My favourites are Guyver, 3*3 Eyes, Dragonball Z and some others which I don't know the names to in English.
Doraemon is also a favourite of mine!
Below is a picture of the whole cast of Dragonball Z:
I have also seen all of Miyazaki-Sensei's films. There are four films in this collection, they are 'Kiki's Delivery Service', 'My Neighbour Totoro', 'Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind' and 'Laputa: Castle in the Sky'.
My favourite film from this collection is 'My Neighbour Totoro'.
As well as watching Manga and Anime cartoons, I also like English cartoons, especially Warner Bros and Disney ones.
One of the best cartoon I have seen is the Disney computer animated Toy Story. It's brilliant and funny, it's right for anyone, no matter how old you are!!!
Like everyone else, I'm also a big fan of Sanrio. My favourite is Badtz Maru (XO).
I love playng computer games, especially RPGs (role playing games). I've got both a Gameboy and a Mega Drive at home, but I don't play on them much anymore. I used to spend most of my time playing on SNES and one of the best RPG I've played is Romancing Saga 3. I've also played all of the Final Fantasy games on the SNES. I also like playing Mario, it was the first game I brought for my Gameboy. But the following Mario games (i.e. Super Mario Land 2 and Wario Land) were not too good, and soon I just grew bored of them!! Below is a picture of Mario, from Mario RPG (which I wanted to play, but couldn't seen to find the game anywhere).
The latest Mario game I've played is Mario64 on the new Nintendo 64 machine.
The last game I played on my Gameboy was Robot War (or something like that, the name is in japanese and I think that this is what it would have been called in english). The game is about Gundams, and is a simulation RPG, which is pretty good! But after this game, I found no others games that I liked on Gameboy, so the only game I still like and play is Tetris.
Apart from RPGs, I also like playing fighting games, like the Virtua Fighter series and the Street Fighter series.
As for music, I enjoy listening to Roxette and most chinese artists, especially Jacky Cheung and Aaron Kwok. I also like songs from musicals, I've already got the sound tracks to Grease, The Sound of Music, Joseph and the Techicolor Dream Coat, Miss Saigon (which is brilliant), and The Phantom of the Opera.
I also like martial arts, in the first term of my 1st year at UCL, I went to some Wing Chun lessons, but because there were too few people at the sessions, they were cancelled, and the lessons were to be continued at their dojo. But the fee was too expensive, so I gave up and have not been to any other martial art's classes since then!
For those of you who are Chinese, but were both in Britian (like me), have you been to Hong Kong before? It's really a wonderful place, I went there for my summer holiday in the year of 1995. It's VERY hot, but the food's great, and there's so much to do, I didn't want to leave!!
Apart from computer games, reading and music, I also enjoy playing squash and badminton. During my final year at University, I played squash everyweek with my friends, since there were squash courts in the halls where I was living. However, it's been nearly five years now since I last played badminton. I also like cycling, but again I haven't cycled for at least one year now!! So as you can very well see, I'm not very active. My ideal pass-time is just sitting down somewhere quiet and either read or play/work on computers!
I'm also interested in weird and strange things, I have got loads of books on things of the unexplained, and one of the books is called The Giant Book of Mysteries, which is about everything strange that have ever happened on the Earth!!
