FREE Web site counters & trackers
- ShowStat Statistics - This is a quality free Web site tracking service that offers graphical stats for your site (in the form of various bar graphs). Showstat provides plenty of information, including a list of the last 25 links that sent traffic your way. There's also information about your last 10 visitors. See sample stats here. This free service is for sites that get less than 10,000 hits/day.
- CyberStats: a stats tracking service - CyberStats is easy to set up and offers loads of information about your visitors. Just cut and paste their coding onto your site and you're all set. The information includes hits for the past 7 days, a yearly total, detailed monthly stats, host name stats, search engine stats and more. They also offer a commercial version (for $16) that eliminates the banner that you display with the free version.
- Better Counter - This Java-based service counts all your site's pages (a maximum of 20 using the free version)
Features include complete hits analysis within a customizable page structure. You get details like internal & external references. Thus, you can find out which links, search engines or banners give you the most hits. Free for up to 20 pages and 500 hits/day.
- StarCounter - This is an easy-to-set-up Web page counter. Just sign up and then insert the code that is generated for you. StarCounter offers many eye-catching digit styles to choose from.
- Web Right Services Counter - This counter service offers almost 600 digit styles. Just sign up with them and they'll send you the necessary coding for your page. The only catch is that you also must display a 176X40 pixels banner, alongside the counter.
- Direct Hit Counter - This is a site counter that gives you daily, weekly and monthly traffic counts and displays them on a constantly-updated Web page. View sample stats here. By participating in this service, you also get your site listed in their "Best of the Web" directory, which can lead to more traffic for you. Each month, they award one of their members 10,000 free banner ads.
- FastCounter - Link Exchange, the banner service, has gotten into the counter business, as well. This service is easy to set up and offers you stats via E-mail. Several counter styles are available. No porn or "inappropriate" sites allowed.
- eXTReMe Tracking - This (mostly) wonderful service from the Netherlands (in English) has every stat you could ask for, intelligently broken down by category. This JavaScript-enhanced tracker offers you loads of information. You get totals by Web site, search engine, E-mail, Usenet, etc. and even can find
out what keywords your visitors used to locate you! See a sample of their stats here. The only problem we have with this service is its customer support. Some of our visitors have complained about not getting assistance or responses to their questions.
- NedStat - Outstanding free counter with all kinds of detailed stats, including what page referred your visitors to you---a essential feature that's very rare among free tracking services. NedStat is now also offering two-week trial periods for its more advanced and detailed NedStat Pro. NedStat also offers a version in Dutch. Our only complaint: the service is down from time to time.
- Ultimate Counter - This is an easy-to-set up counter that offers a random font, so your visitors will see a different style every time they
visit your site. This service also offers a clock that you may place on your page and set to your own time zone.
You must display a banner in order to use the free version of this service.
- MnetWeb Free Page Counters - We've been hearing good things from our visitors about this page counter that you can personalize and customize to your liking. This service offers over 40 options to customize your counter. All images have transparent backgrounds to coordinate with your page background easier. Many of the images are animated (and pretty cool looking!).
- ICDirect.com - This is a fast, free easy-to-set-up counter that tracks your daily, weekly and monthly hits.
Using this counter also gets you listed in their directory, which can lead to more traffic

- IMChat Access Counter Service - Here's an interesting counter with a new twist: it allows you to view how many people are looking at your page(s). If someone goes to your page while you are viewing it, the counter will be bumped up one number. If that person leaves, the counter will be decreased. All this happens live. (Note: this application is incompatible with MSIE 4).
- SuperStats - Nice stats service that allows you to see how many people have visited your Web page, how they found your site, what time of day they visited, and more. In return, they display a banner on your page that is 400 by 40 pixels. It's easy to set up; just cut & paste 2 lines of HTML to your page.
- Siteflow Free Counters - Fast-growing free counter site that offers several options, such as ignoring your own hits to your site, as well as making your counter invisible. Setting up the counter is a straightforward two-part process. The free service is available only to sites that get no more than 500 hits a day. They also limit you to one counter per site.
- IPStat - This tracking service disappeared for a while, but they're back now. They provide plenty of stats including "Hits for the last 21 days," "Hit per Country," "Hits per Hour," "Total Hits per Week Day," "Hits per Browser," and more. Free for personal pages.
- Freestats - Nice stats program that offers lots of useful data. Besides telling you how many hits your page is getting, it will tell you how many unique visitors your page gets every day/month and shows you who they were. It also tells you such
useful info as how many unique visitors you got, what countries they came from and more.
- WebSide Story- - Not strictly a free counter service, but it serves that purpose well. You sign up whatever pages you want and then they'll be ranked by impressions in the category of your choice. You can then view that page's stats and get such useful information such as forecasts on how many hits you can expect that day. This cool service is also useful for getting more hits, as other surfers who browse the list will click in from time to time.
- WatchWise - This service isn't free, but they offer a 7-day no obligation trial offer. WatchWise builds and maintains an historical utilization and performance database for your Web site, and generates a comprehensive set of management and technical reports and graphs.
- Free Web Page Hit Counter - A free counter that allows you to count the hits on all your
pages, view counts on all pages at the same
time & view counts without viewing the page and
incrementing the count. Easy to set up: just cut & paste some HTML and make minor modifications and you're all set. Note: you can't use this on an X-rated site, use this service instead.
- WebTracker - This major free service offers a number of goodies. You get data on what browser your visitors are using, the operating system they're running, and you can tell if they're repeat visitors. You can also find out what days of the week are hot and find out what time of the day visitors come to your site. WebTracker data is updated in real-time. There is never the need to wait for a log file update; view your stats whenever you want to. Note: WebTracker has reported problems with their service with the Internet Explorer browser, version 4.
- Web Pal Counter - WebPal generates hourly, daily and monthly reports. Each report contains accesses, browsers and hosts statistics. Not free, but a trial period available.
- Free Web Counter - Fill out a survey and get a free easy-to-use counter. Nice.
- Crazy Counter - A joke page counter, available in both Java and animated GIF versions.
- The Museum of Counter Art - Tired of the same lame-looking counter on your page? Check out this site which has 500 sets of free counter artwork for anyone to use. The counter sets can be used with most any counter CGI scripts, across all platforms. Counter art is displayed in the various exhibit rooms of the museum based on its particular look or style.
- Page Count - Counter service with good & bad news. The good---it provides lots of stats: How many people viewed your page; a breakdown of page views by date, day, and time; a list of where the requests for your page originated; the hostnames of the visitors! (up to 100 max) and unlimited hits. The bad news is you have to display their banner. Page Count is now also offering a "sports themed graphical page counter" that you can get here.
- Site-Stats - Here's the deal: you give them space for a billboard; they provide you with counter stats.
- LBInet free counter service - A good basic counter. Just go to the site, fill out a form and they'll E-mail the
HTML you need to put on your page. They claim a 99.98 percent reliability rate. No X-rated sites allowed.
- Dyno Counter - Just cut & paste some code and Viola! you've got a counter. You can have as many counters as you want as long
as the content on your site is free.
- JCount - JCount is a set of animated web page access counters that are available as free access counters. Although they are Java-based, they include a backup counter for those users who do not have Java support. You can choose from a selection of different digit types or change the number displayed at any time you choose by using a simple configuration screen. Paid subscription service available, too.
