Stephen Gately Knows What He Wants!

He has a lot of plans for 2001 and, knowing Stephen Gately, he is going to do them all. His wish-list: a new album, a tour, some duets and manage some other artists.

But, has he forgotten about Boyzone???

The year 2000 only has 2 more months left. Was it a successful year?

Yes it was a nice year, business wise and private life. My album and singles sold well and my home life, with my family and friends is going really well. I was a lucky dog again in 2000. I did enjoy this year, especially because I was in Asia again. That is a really beautiful part of the world.

What were the special places for you this year?

India is a beautiful and spiritual country. That does appeal to me because I myself am into meditation and that kind of stuff a bit. That is really good for a person. The only sports I do are cycling and running. And I do swim sometimes.

Are you able to separate your career and your private life?

Yes, that is going okay. I have to. Sometimes it is difficult because people do want to know a lot. But I can handle most questions.

You are living with Eloy, but are you already a Dutchman?

Ha ha, no not yet. But I think I am not going to be one. Ireland is my base. I do have a home there, where I still spend a lot of my time. I will always have 2 house's! One in Ireland and One in Holland, here with Eloy. All my family and friends are living in Ireland.

In Holland you can get married, but you can't in Ireland!

Who is saying I am going to marry? I haven't been asked you know! And that can wait 5 years, or 10, or the party can be tomorrow! Is Eloy is going to ask me? Maybe. Or maybe I am going to ask him, that may happen too. We don't have plans. I am not against gay marriage. But when I am going to marry, I will do it for the romantic thought behind it and not because of the piece of paper. For me, marriage means that you show everyone you want to be with this person for the rest of your life.

What do you want to happen next year?

I will continue with what I am doing now. And I want my album at number 1 in a lot of countries. Counting is one thing, but I am doing it for the fun. If there is a moment when I don't like it anymore, I will stop with it.

Are you lonely sometimes?

No, never! Because I have the right people next to me. I have learned from the past that it isn't good to have people around me who are only negative. For me it is important that I can talk to people who are sober and know a lot about me. So I am not feeling lonely when I am solo.

Once there was a band called Boyzone. . .

Ha ha, they still exist you know! I am waiting for the phonecall from the others. When they want to do something again, then I am there for them.

Yes, but if everyone is just waiting, then Boyzone will slowly bleed to death!

No, that wouldn't happen. We did say that there would be a Boyzone tour next year. It is not so we are just doing something. Once in so much time we will talk about our plans. But at the moment, our solo careers are doing great.

What do the others do?

Just before the end of the year Keith and Shane release a single- a cover of Milli Vanilli's Girl You Know It's True. Mikey is coming with a solo album soon.

Will there be a Boyzone album next to a tour?

I can't say anything about that. No idea. I do hope so, but I can't give you an opinion on that.

After 7 good years for Stephen Gately, what do you have left to wish?

I want to try out producing and managing for some other artists, besides singing. And I want to do some duets. Emma Bunton is a good friend of mine so I will ask her. . . Or Shaznay All Saints or Melanie C.

Which artists?

No boy or girl bands. That market has reached its limit. Gone over it, to be exact!
