The perpetrator comes in for the final kill, and she herself is shot and quickly loses consciousness. Now bedridden and traumatized she is starting to remember more.
The victim of the crime is Detective Jack Monaghan's partner. Technically, he should not be working on the case, but the police develop information that implicates Jack. Left to find the true killer, he leaves and is on the run from his coworkers.
While deciding his next move, an attempt is made on Kathleen's life. Saved only by Jack's intervention, she knows he is not the killer. Both now injured, and suspecting the perpetrator is somehow connected to the police department, he quickly convinces her of the need to get to a safe place.

He loses consciousness to the sound of bullets ringing in his ears believing Kathleen is dead."
